Bose radio equivalent?
 

I need a new radio for my basement workspace, something not online because I want to use it when I'm out in garden as well. The Bose Wave is still a lot of money so was wondering if you guys know of a brand that's as good but not $400.

I've had a small radio by Tivoli PAL for years, its fine for background music, portable rugged etc...

I bought 2 of these ay Costco for $120 each at Christmas. They are Bluetooth, sit on a charging pad and you can take them outdoors and the battery life is great.

If you sign up for Amazon Music Unlimited (I think around $8 a month) you can listen to pretty much anything you would want.

I bought a Bluetooth receiver and hooked up some speakers I had for the garage. Rocked out all day streaming pandora. Cost outlay less than $30. Not portable.

I have a Bose Mini Soundlink I have used for many hours a day, every day for about five years. It's great, but it's starting to give up the ghost and I may have to spring for a new one. Can't decide if I should buy a new battery or just get a whole new one. But when it was working right, it was great. I really got my money's worth out of it.

If you carry your cell phone with you wherever you are, then I would recommend a bluetooth speaker. Your phone can use the Rdio app, or amazon music, pandora, etc. If you pick up a nice bluetooth speaker, it might set you back $150, but it will likely sound similar to the Bose.

It sounds like it is background music you are looking for, and if that is the case, I would think any battery powered boombox would work. I think those start at around $20.00

Thought of using my cell phone but the data rates are appalling, and I like having a radio in my workspace. Kind of like when me and Dad would do shade tree tune ups listening to the Yankee games.

I just sold a great sounding radio that included a dock for iPod. $20 on Craig’s list. I am onboard with others and now have a Bose BT speaker linked to my phone. My data plan is unlimited so no worries streaming online content. Heck I don’t even store music on my phone anymore.

Marshall amplifiers manufacturers several different models of bluetooth 'mini' speakers some of which are battery powered. There is no comparison to sound quality and volume produced. Best part is they all look like vintage amplifiers. Go to their website, check them out. Can find them online via best buy and other retailers. I gave one and absolutely love it.

No WiFi reception in the basement or garden?

You don't need wifi to run BT. And it doesn't touch your data plan unless you're listening to the radio. I've been running BT earbuds at the gym with my iPhone for many years. And I never connect to the gym's wifi.

You could probably find a good Grundig/ Eton on eBay.

Some have Bluetooth for an added bonus.
