Anyone know what kind of glue I should use?
 

Trying to help keep the wife's sewing machine safe when not in use.
Her embroidery unit didn't come with a case, but we have an old one I'm trying to re-purpose. To that end I've been trying to make a styrafoam liner help hold the unit in the 'bag'.
I'm using some blocks of foam that have the recycle stamp shown in the picture.

It is from the box that the sewing machine came packed in. I'm wondering what kind of glue will work best on this type of styrafoam?
The pieces from the box are glued together in some places. It really works well and I'm hoping to replicate the bond. I have spare pieces to experiment with.

I use original Gorilla glue on my sons airplane that's styrofoam.

Thanks Peppy, we may even have some of that around. I'll check.

Gorilla Glue also makes a spray for that type of material, too, if peppy wasn't talking about the spray type. I used it on my foam sound deadening for my boat engine compartment and it worked really well.

Hot glue, Gorilla glue, Elmers has worked in the past for foam gliders. Latex contact cement would work but is way too much trouble and hte real stuff will eat the foam. Spray fabric stuff might work but is probably more mess than it is worth as well. There are some foam safe ca glues out there too.

I just googled the symbol and it's for low-density polyethylene.
My wife has a hot glue gun, I'll have to get it out and give it a try.

Elmers rubber cement or if you have a hobby store around they'll have cans of spray glue you can use.

Heat will probably melt holes in it.

Do another search using a different engine.
There are plenty of foam-compatible glues out there.

I would use clear RTV.

I like the idea of clear RTV.

I'm running an overnight test with Elmer's glue tonight. If it works, I'll use it as I've got bottle of it sitting around on the shelf. I'll have to come up with some clamping methods. Right now it's just a little clamp applying a small amount of pressure.

Based on google search - polyethlyene is difficult to glue. I don't think white glue is going to hold up.

What adhesive works on polyethylene?
The Loctite All-Plastic Super Glue includes a tube of bonding agent and a bottle of surface activator. It bonds with hard and soft plastic. The glue works well with polyethylene and polypropylene surfaces.

Most hobby shops have foam safe Cyanoacrylate (super glue), search foam safe zap

3M Super 77 in an aerosol can. Spray both pieces, wait 20 or 30 seconds then put them together and you better hope you put them together correctly!

Or perhaps UHU Por in a tube if you have a craft store nearby.

As someone who has fabricated hundreds of foam protection shapes, I would use a spray adhesive specifically for foam. I used eFoam, but not sure if that is sold in the USA , but there will be something similar sold by foam merchants.

"Foam Tack" or "Foam-Cure" check your local hobby store

Non solvent based construction adhesive. Just the cheapest tube.

Elmer's was a total fail.

Trying the hot glue gun now.

Will resort to RTV next if hot glue gun fails.

I'm finding you can't even buy the glue that is supposed to work on this stuff, here in CA.

Lots of RC guys uild planes with dollar store foam and use foam safe CA to hold them together. Should hold your foam.
