Nextdoor App, Are You Using It?
I've known about it for a long time, but never used it.
Got an invite in the snail mail. They're calling it Nextdoor Moondance. I've always been a "knock on their door" type if there's an issue and I get along with my neighbors fine. Don't really know them all that well, but I'm easy to get along with. What say you? |
Nope, its a bunch of bored nosy chatty Cathys who are either retired or not working
|
I assumed so.
I'm tempted to see what's in there. |
its great should your pup get loose...
or see a stray in the hood.. Rika |
I occasionally read the website if I'm bored, but I won't install an app unless I absolutely, positively, have no other option.
|
I have it and it's good to have for instances like lost dogs, neighborhood police info, street/power repairs, etc . 9/10 posts though are absolutely useless such as Karen *****ing about the school buses going 27 in a 25.

I was in the midst of a design doc for a similar concept when Nextdoor came out.
Signed up to check it out. Regretted it within the first hour. Tore up my design doc and vowed never to get involved with a pox on society like that. Individual experiences may vary, mostly I suspect based on the size of your group. |
There's some entertainment value from it.
It's: 30% Lost Animals 30% Suspicious Person 30% Was that fireworks or gunshots? 10% My cousin is a handyman and will work for cheap |

It's not next door.
It's a San Francisco based social media website that might as well be a Facebook subgroup. What's the difference? I've gotten three invite letters "from" my neighbors. -One I know very well. I walked over and we talked. They were a bit concerned their name was used without permission. -The other two live many blocks away and I've never met. |
if you like Gossip? Do you really need their help or just your immediate neighbors you want to talk to?

However, it has become my go to for buying and selling tools, etc. Some great deals on ND. I've picked up some welding jobs from there as well even though there are no less than 3 weldors in my local. |
We use it. Our HOA has gone to it as their communication platform b/c it's free (vs what they were paying for in the past). Posts are annoying, I get the weekly journal summary email, that makes it easier to tolerate.
For crime monitoring the Ring security app works a lot better. |

Today's excitement was "Thanks for leaving the used condom in my driveway." Apparently some of neighbors know how to party... |
I do it on the computer a bit - would never eff up my phone with it, tho you can turn off certain topics
- some usefulness for crime suspects roaming, and for lost items/pets around here it is mostly a mirror image of upside down PARF - just as crazy but very left-wing: homeless junkies are really good people and need our love, etc. etc. |
We started using it @ 8 months ago. Like it for what it is.
