It’s starting,

San Diego wants to start pushing out expensive cars by 2021. But still has a long way to go. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1582229299.jpg

This article is from the blog, Electrek. Out now.

Jim Richards 02-20-2020 11:42 AM

I seriously doubt that’s going anywhere. San Diego is pretty conservative.

gordner 02-20-2020 12:03 PM

And the purpose of this would be what?

Nick Triesch 02-20-2020 12:36 PM

I live in San Diego. Not being a jerk .many large cities like San Diego have a liberal council and we already have items in place for global warming or climate change. In fact, San Diego is already addressing climate justice!!! I read another article this week where Elon musk was saying that very soon gas cars will start to go away because when people find out that EV cars cost a fraction to charge they will start to change their minds. He went on to say that the average internal combustion engine has 2000 parts where the Tesla S has 18. He said cars will last much longer and have very little maintenance. I own a 85 911!! I love it. Musk says most gas cars will be worthless in 5 years. How would we sell our cars? The article with Muck is also in this weeks EV blog called Electrek. Easy to get to. Google and read. Just interesting folks. Good stuff to know.

Seems pretty silly. It sounds like Elon has friends in the SD govt. "Psst, hey, buddy. Do you think you could outlaw any car that could remotely be competition for my cars? That'd be great if you could do that."

I don't see the purpose. It doesn't sound like anything that's likely to happen, but then it is California.

masraum 02-20-2020 01:10 PM

I don't think this is even a thing at this point. It's just an idea from some nutter.

What your screenshot above doesn't include is the text farther down the article (which only seems to exist in one place on the 'Net which makes it suspect news in my book).

A new organization called Breathe Free America has been formed to circulate the petition for the ballot initiative, which they’ve dubbed the “Clean Vehicle Initiative.” They are looking to gather 76,000 signatures from San Diegans in order to get it on the ballot.

I live in California! Already bills put in to ban gas cars my 2040. Right around the corner. Read the articles on Electrek. It is an all Ev blog mostly about Tesla. It is also anti gasoline and just anti. But has articles about this stuff from all over the world.

When you read stuff on the Internet, you'd be better off to automatically NOT believe it. Assume it's FOS and don't get too excited.

I live in San Diego, it’s true.

What's true is that there's a few nutters trying to get this to happen, but that doesn't make it a done deal.

The San Diego auto museum in Balboa Park will probably take in many air cooled 911’s when the time comes. They have storage.

masraum 02-20-2020 02:48 PM

Thanks for the entertainment value.

It sounds like that's for the best.

If San diego was all electric cars, skate boards and bicycles, it would be a much nicer place.

The good news is that it's just the new expensive cars that are going to be outlawed. The old beater cars are fine, so you may want to buy a yard full of beaters from the 70s and 80s.

Brando 02-20-2020 03:10 PM

There's a big dealer network in SD. I doubt that measure would pass.

petrolhead611 02-20-2020 03:17 PM

It would make far more sense if they banned all passenger vehicles weighing more than 1.5 tonnes without fuel. That way, electric cars could still be permitted, but petrol and diesel grossly oversized cars and small lorries( sorry, gigantic pickup trucks) would be banned. They take up too much space, spew out too much pollution and don't brake and handle well enough( Cayenne excepted),and present an unnecessary danger to other road users in the event of an accident.
It might also stop people eating like pigs so that they could fit into cars that are considered normal sized in countries other than the US( and they would be far healthier for it).

Evans, Marv 02-20-2020 03:17 PM

I live in S.D. County. If this is as real thing, it will be all over the news. Otherwise it's suspect or some grandstanding by some city council nuts.

Under the initiative you would have to change your handle to electrohead611...
