ever try to light up a plan-sheet (or trail map) with a modern LED flashlight? you will not be able to..and the impending blue orb floating in front of you eyes in the dark will eventually fade. i NEED the dimming feature on my flashlights and headlamps. plus there are sometimes you just want a faint light..like hiking in the dark. you dont need much light to not bust your ass, and it is nice to save some power.

strob? okay. i dont ever imagine myself trying to disorient a perp, but i imagine that strob would be superior as signaling my rescue chopper.

I have a pelican mini flashlight that has the ability to cast light in white red or green. The red mode will not blind you.

You should look into lights with truly customizable drivers/firmware/UI. Do a search for flashlights + "Anduril", "Narsil", "Bistro", etc. ;)

The reason for the butt end switch is so that it doesn't get activated in a holster. The ones that are gun mounted also work better with a butt end switch. Try a Olight. They have a bulbous side switch. That fkkr always turns itself on unless you hold it down purposefully to lock it out. Then you get to do the same to turn it back on. Talk about a retard design.

sure, but reality would kill his rant and my witticism

Not necessarily... It depends on what you'll be using your flashlight for and "butt end" switches can be replaced easily if needed.

Did you know that you can change the light level of the iPhone flashlight? I think they have 4 levels of brightness. IIRC, you long press the flashlight switch to get to the place to change the levels.
