We had straight line winds of at least 50 gust to 70 mph.
Damage to my seawall (the Potomac looked like the North Atlantic!) and shingles off the roof. ![]()

Straightline wind burst did quite a bit of damage in the Raleigh area. My was was almost hit by a falling try on the way to work Friday morning. 80 foot pine tree missed crushing her car by a few feet, she spotted it just in time.
Video of a highway sign being ripped off from the winds. https://abc11.com/5909230/

We had severe rain / wind for @ 30 mins but no damage. However Loudoun county had the worst. Tornado touched down caused a fair amount of destruction. They are about 30 miles north of my location. Also parts of north western Maryland sustained some similar property losses.

My "seawall" got hammered. We are at the widest point on the Potomac, facing almost due South. The combination of tide, wind and waves really did a number on the wall.
Here is a broad view: ![]() The blue arrow is where all the damage occurred. Some more detail: ![]() ![]() ![]() Good thing is my closest neighbor does this type of work...45 minutes of amazing weather. The spray coming off the sea wall was hitting my house. ![]()

So, I've been busy.
New anchors back from the sea wall, 40 tons of back fill with filter cloth, 40 tons of rock in front of the sea wall. Lots more to do. I hired three local guys, including my neighbor who knows how to do this. We did it all with a front end loader on my tractor, and I loved doing the driving. Some pics. I'll neaten it up with top soil and grading (I have tons and tons since we do the compost, horse manure thing) after s few more truck loads of the big stuff. ![]() ![]() ![]()

So I ask folks, get advice, get the filter cloth and decide I'll do it by hand, with an old Ford F100 that came with the farm. Two hours in, looking at mass of dirt and stone I was going to need, I did the math and bought my first front end loader that fit the old MF tractor that came with the farm. Then I called the local quarry and had what I needed delivered. Time and hydraulics are best friends. How is your Dad, btw...I hope the Tacoma has been good to him.

Too cool. You have a ton more use for a machine than I do.
Thanks for asking, pops is doing well. His new knee works like a charm. I love the old Taco, its the perfect run around truck for him. Reminds me, its overdue for a service. Thanks again! |
