2008 550i - E60 8 cyl - Punted on oil leak job
Guy says "I have an oil leak in my BMW". I say I may know what it is thinking oil cooler seal on a 6 cylinder.
Brings in an 8 cylinder. Best I can see is oil cooler, the size of an AC condenser, is shot and valve cover gaskets leaking, minimum. I can't confirm anything, just logical guesses based on several hours of staring upwards into tiny gaps between parts and watching YouTube videos, and where oil is dripping onto floor (e.g., off of suspension parts). I said no. I'll fix his broken rear springs but have to let the engine job slide. I've met my match.

exactly why Tyler Hoover (of Hoovie's Garage) was just able to buy an Alpina B7 for $3500. It immediately needed $5k in work, mostly oil leaks, and like he said, once all that is sorted it would probably just break again and need more work.

I've done 2 of those alternator braket/cooler cover thingys on x 5 v8's. It is a bear of a job , takes hours of ball busting, twisting super tight bolts one mm turn at a time with a stubby wrench etc. do not likey .
That right there is why a $60k BMW is worth $4500 once it has 100k on it
