I wonder if he found out it was round?
Mad Mike Hughes died last weekend in a failed rocket landing after a flight to see if the earth is flat or round... looks like his parachute (landing gear) was deployed (and subsequently torn off) during take off...

He found out the earth was pretty hard... dunno about the flat part

what a total bummer for the Science Channel guys
|
I knew this guy, we did a live music event for him last year.
Nice guy, had some kooky ideas, safety standards were not up to NASA quality. RIP Mad Mike. |
That's too bad...
|
I think he was just having a bit of fun, and thought of himself as getting a bit old to do what he likes, so go out in a blaze of glory.

I find satisfaction that the laws of science prevailed over someone insistent on disproving science.
Too bad he was a nice guy. Actively working against knowledge offends me. |
Sounds similar to Evel Kneivel when his rocket deployed the chute on launch....

The Wil E. Coyote of rocket science.....

The earth is not round, but that dude is now flat.

“‘I don’t believe in science,” said Hughes back in 2017. “I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the air, about the certain size of rocket nozzles, and thrust. But that’s not science, that’s just a formula. There’s no difference between science and science fiction.'”

I guess the gravity of ignorance of science was demonstrated to him clearly and forcefully.

I know the flat earth people think it is a trick of the windows and all that, but couldn't he have just rented a ride in an old open cockpit Waco or something and got higher and still had no trick windows?
