Porsche and BMW Airhead Motorcycle Owners
I was just wondering how many Pelicans own some sort of Vintage BMW motorcycle in addition to a 911? Pics Welcome
I have a 1975 BMW R90 with 22k miles and a 1980 911sc With the weekends being so short, I have trouble splitting my time between the bike and the SC since both are driven only in nice weather, and more and more Im riding the motorcycle. Living in downtown Chicago, I find myself asking the question if I really do need my911 in the city

It was owned by my son who lives in Chicago. He took it apart thinking he was going to restore then lost interest. I bought it from him as a pile of parts. Did a complete restore in 2010, spent way to much $, but it's a great bike. BTW, I grew up in Elmhurst. Are you a native or a transplant? Love the 911 BTW. Warren

Im a transplant from CT via Russia Is your Son still in Chicago? I started my R90/6 last night for the first time. It needs a tune up (carb/ Valve adjsutment, filters changed) and there is a 1 month waiting time to see an 84 yrl old Guru mechanic that specializes in Airheads, in Chicago. Wondering if you son does side jobs? |

I guess I should have expanded on the story. I had originally found and got the bike running for him. He took it apart thinking he was going to take it to the next level of restoration. My son is a great kid, but didn't have the mechanical ability nor the money to farm the work out so then it just sat for a few years before he offered it to me. You might want to give Motoworks a ring at 312-738-4269. Warren

I sold the old E, planning on increasing the available space in my garage and then taking up that space with a project R100.
That thought continued until the point I invited my dear wife of three and a half decades to come with me to look at what I thought would be the perfect candidate. Unfortunately, she still harbored memories of my crash in '81 and fears it would happen again. We talked it over and she came out with the suggestion of a small convertable. Three weeks later a friend said he thought he'd part out his Miata because of the SNC problem. I bought his car and fixed it and have been happy with the decision. I confess: I still have a very soft spot for Airheads (and oilheads). Best Les

I've been to Motorworks before they have this great older Airhead mechanic that does good work but the customer services is questionable. They charge more then the BMW dealer out in the burbs, and with so many bikes in the shop I felt they didnt pay as much attention to my bike as I would have liked. Little l things, like forgetting too attach the bmw luggage bags and returning the bike more filthy then when I brough it in |

Sorry to hear that. I know that that was where my son took his bike for misc. work several years ago. How about reaching out to the local airhead group there. I'm sure they could help you out. Warren

Found this R25/3 napping in a garage a few years back. Woke it up from a 30yr slumber, restored it mechanically.
Sold it as I was getting the urge for bigger bikes and am too damn reckless to stay alive on one.

![]() Had many over the years, currently down to just one; a R27 single. This is a photo plucked from the web as mine is a basket case stored in boxes.......I paid $500 to a guy selling as his job transfer took him out of the country....He had rebuild the engine, had it painted and never got it back together........Someday, I will.
