How much more does a windshield cost?

Will the cocoon protect a person from debris from other cars? Needs a windscreen.

RKDinOKC 03-03-2020 02:22 PM

Thought windshields were to keep the bugs out of you teeth?

I drove my Speedster around without the windshield on for a couple of weeks. It's way worse than a motorcycle.

Like so many things McLaren makes... Next to useless in the real world but no doubt they'll have a few idiots lined up to buy it.

The F1 was another era altogether.

As the Brits like to say "McLaren the new Lotus"

We have lots of wild turkeys in my area. Just last week, I hit one while driving...only going 45 mph.
It bounced off my front bumper..then the upper windshield. Feathers were flying, but it did no damage to my car.
With the McLaren, I would have been going at least 75 mph, and the turkey would have won.

So, I guess when out comparison shopping your new 1.6 million-dollar supercar, the lack of a windshield will be the dealbreaker....

If you want to drive it on a public road then yes, the lack of a windshield is a deal breaker.

rusnak 03-03-2020 04:05 PM

Hold on, you sour grapes guys. This thing is going to be very innovative and totally bad-ass.

And there is a wind screen accessory.

If McLarens are as bad as you say, then I'll be able to buy one cheap. So far, they seem to have held their value pretty well.

Exactly, who'd want a $1million dollar car with a windshield when you could be even more extreme if you had a $1.6 million dollar car without ANY windows of any sort!

Take a look at your search, bro. Most of them are Clarkson and that Jay Emm dude. Vin Wiki is entertaining, but not exactly where people who can buy a $1.5M car, and not affect their caviar First Class travel budget, will get their car buying insight. Stoking the fires of envy, I'd say. If you're on a Toyota maintenance budget, then stick to Toyotas. Do you see me complaining here about $500 oil changes, and $2K brake jobs? Nope.

This one is worth a look if you're in the market.

I'll summarize, Horrendous customer service and serious reliability issue from the factory.

"If it rains and this sensor gets wet it then becomes faulty"

Well, if the salesman convinced me it was a feature and not a bug I guess I’d go ahead and get it. Gotta get to work tomorrow somehow

VW Bug flat windscreens are still $20 and $20 to install in Tijuana!

They will probably charge a little more to install one on a McLaren.:)
