Where did the “Pelican” of Pelican Parts come from?

At last night’s grace before dinner, I asked for the Lord’s help for “for a fellow Pelican, Michael Marsh”. Immediately afterwards one of them asked what that was all about, and I said it’s just someone from the Porsche forum I’m on that was hospitalized. “Pelican?!” “Why is it called Pelican? What does that have to with Porsche?”
I had to admit I had no idea. Never even thought about and I’ve been here 18 years. Damn kids.

Yes, Wayne did post about the name years ago. If I recall correctly, when Wayne was starting Pelican and creating the web site, there was a pier nearby he liked to go to that was full of Pelicans. When it came time to name his company and website, he had to pick something, so he named it Pelican Parts after the pelicans that flocked to the area.

It was Wayne and Tom at the time. Either one could have had the idea, but Wayne did tell the story once.
