Need water feature ideas
I'm setting up a water feature in my front yard. I've got the basin sunk in, working on the plumbing, now I just need the artistic ideas.
The basin is 45" square and will support 1200lbs (according to the docs) in an area roughly 18' x 18' I'm looking for ideas for something I can construct and plumb myself; I don't want something that looks like it came from Home Depot or Lowes, eg a big vase with water coming out the top. https://i.imgur.com/c5cT5Kgh.jpg |

easy to build...or to change.

I like it; I'm sure I could find a junk Isetta to use for the centerpiece

My great Uncle has a 15 ft diameter water pool with a big volcanic bolder 6 ft tall on a pole hovering just above the water. The water is pumped into the bolder and comes out everywhere and flows into the pool. Volcanic rock is very porous.
A bit more contemporary than the vase or the vw. My dog dug a toad up at the base of a cottonwood tree. About 1-1/2 ft deep. It filled up and stayed full of clear water until the soil filled in the hole at the end of the summer. Understand the water wicked out of the cottonwood tree. More traditional, you can do the greek thing of cherub peeing or classic sculptures of nearly nude women pouring water from a vase. In nature, spring water just comes out of a hole and runs down from there. |

I like mermaids myself......
$230 from Amazon: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....C2eyL._AC_.jpg Only 30" high so may not be the right size for you but there are tons of mermaid water fountains online if you are interested. |
I know you stated you wanted to make this yourself and didn't want something that looked like it came from a box store but wanted to offer the mermaid suggestion anyway. There are many available like I said including many that you probably wouldn't see in a box store because of their artistry.

We had a large piece of green basalt drilled as a bubbler at our last house. It did take a Bobcat to place the rock. At our most recent house we live in a more woodsy area and have an upper and lower basin with a small stream between the two. The sound of running water is really nice.

Instead of a water feature as such, how about a beautifully landscaped goldfish pond with a waterfall or the water cascading down over rocks.
Edit : LOL something like Hockey's water feature/water fall but with a pond as well. |
Go to Pinterest and search on water features. There will be hundreds.

So memorable, even though you don't see it until 5 minutes into this scene:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uSjS_l3wGu8" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Most of the water features I've seen on Pinterest, Houzz, etc have more square footage than my entire yard.
