They are doing the same here.

I've been pondering the same question.

Toilet paper? Why stock up on toilet paper?

The list of reasons I'm guessing at for "What are people thinking?" runs something like this;
1) It's cheaper than Kleenex for coughing/sneezing into
2) Useful for cleaning surfaces (other than those for which it's purpose was intended) with disinfectant
3) It's made of paper and if all paper production is suddenly switched to making masks then there'll be a shortage
4) a-If we buy TP and a load of food we won't need to leave the house for months
b-Loads of food involves buying inexpensive, canned goods (i.e. beans), therefore the TP is an essential

Nothing to support these ideas, merely conjecture.

All it takes is a mention of the possibility of a shortage and morons will panic buy and horde it.

It does not snow that often in Oklahoma City, but almost all forecasts of a big snow coming and the store shelves are emptied of "the three whites" Toilet Paper, Bread and Milk. All I can figure is lots of snow makes everyone want to eat french toast and the get diarrhea from it. I guess the egg shortage is not an issue. I have never understood it.

My wife is a supplier to Wal-Mart and one of her first-aid products is the mask. I think it was week one of the corona outbreak in China, Wal-Mart calls her trying to buy up any and all masks to keep up with Chinese demand. Their suppliers were already out of stock at that point.

Preparing for the explosive diarrhea that coronavirus might cause. Me I have plenty of old shirts laying around if things get too bad. If those run out I figure I'll just shower more frequently. :D

^^^

Same here in TexASS - how soon people seem to forget that even if it does get cold and drop some snow, two days later it's in the 80s again.
