FWD truck, how did that work our for VW?

legion 03-10-2020 09:06 AM

I'd seriously consider adding one to my fleet. It'd also have the dual purpose of being a first vehicle for a kid in 8 years.

Ford's stock has been crushed with the rest of late. This FWD ranger and the new Bronco Sport make me wonder what is going on there but maybe my expectations are too high.

masraum 03-10-2020 10:14 AM

How is this a "mini". Hasn't the Ranger always been "mini". This looks like it's bigger than any of the previous Rangers.

FWD? WTF? hahahah

Fine, for quite a few years.

This 'truck' is based on the Brazilian Ford Focus, so it's small.
FWD w/ optional AWD.

This is exactly the car/truck a lot of people are looking for...all current truck are huge compared to the ranch trucks we owned when I was growing up - mostly F-100's.

I love my Tundra on long trips, for hauling and towing but it is too f'ing big for around town. I would love a small pick-up on the scale of my 1991 Toyota SR-5.

From the article that is linked above...There is no name yet for the truck. It's a step smaller than the Ranger that Ford builds now. A cheaper, smaller truck...which might be a big seller.
I will seriously be interested...this is what I was hoping today's Ranger would be.

"Reports that the compact truck will be priced under $20,000 and is code-named P758. "

The 'Courier' name has been mentioned as a probable choice.

It worked out great, and they sold a lot of them; and many of them are still on the road!

Ah, got it. It looks big in the photos.

The current ranger looks almost as big as the F100s of days gone past.

To me a small truck should be more like

I took a trip in one of these from Kyoto almost to Tokyo.
It performed flawlessly even in the high mountain twisties.
We probably didn't go over 70mph.

I had a 1979 SR 5, man I carried so much firewood in that thing I swear the front wheels were barely touching the ground.

That "new ford pictured in the ad is only news in North America

That is what the ranger has looked like in other parts of the world for some time.
I spent a bunch of time driving around in an old one just like that this year

2013 vs 2019

I forget which year the new body style was introduced

^^^ The article is about a new smaller version of the Ranger....that hasn't been made yet.

Crowbob 03-10-2020 01:27 PM

I'd be skeptical of a uni-body PU.
