Bosch Dishwasher Troubleshooting SHS Silent 46 Model

I have a 2 year old Bosch dishwasher. Just when everyone is home for "shelter in place" it gives up the ghost. Surprisingly little information out there that's specific to this washer and the issues I see.

This is the most recent Silent Plus 46 dbA SHS Model that has only LED controls, no display. The failure is that it does not start, the cycle light just blinks and it beeps when closed. This is apparently a sign that there is an error.

I tried to read the error code by going through the proper button sequence. I found sparse information online how to do that and only later found the brief repair manual in the back of the washer. I may have deleted the errors stored in the machine.

The error codes are displayed by blinking lights which can be decoded. It reads "no error", equal to E:00 if it had a display. I did run the factory test program, following the repair instructions. The test program runs through until the "clean" button comes on. Reading the error after the test program it is still "no error".

It is possible that the test program hangs up in a later drying step, i.e. if it doesn't reach the proper temp (?) but for all I see, it finishes and then I still don't get an error message. Yet, going back to normal operation, I still get the fault beep / blinking cycle light.

Any ideas??? Any experts!?

I am a day away from throwing this thing out and buying a new one. Even without a shelter in place, by the time you call service and they come do something, you are 2/3 of the cost of a new washer.

I will get a different brand. May go back to American with a garbage disposal working in the bottom. Besides the Bosch crapping out on me, it had constant issues with stuff getting past the trap, clogging the drain / pump. (That is NOT the issue here).

Thanks!

George

Could be an ECU fault. Online sources say the power transistors or caps go bad after a while, about 10 years or so in my case.

I replaced the ECU and it works fine now. Old ECU is on the tofix list, probably needs a simple $5 component swap. Check the sensors before you do anything if any are indicating a fault. The troubleshooting manual has more details.

My issue is that I have no error codes, yet the thing blinks / beeps with an alert and doesn't run. It goes through all key steps of the test program and if it gets hung up it is in the very last part of heated dry. It obviously fills, drains, splashes etc. and all related sensors must be okay, otherwise it couldn't do it. Maybe it is like a check engine light, where a sensor is out of range, but then again, why would it not log it as an error?

I am almost at my wits' end. Once I am done WORKING FROM HOME, I will spend time with it and a stop watch running the test program. There is duration in seconds listed with every step of the test program, maybe if I follow along I can see if the "finish" is see is actually hang up on one of the drying steps. Still not sure how that will give me guidance on what component to replace.

I could replace the control board just on a WAG, but it is 120 bucks which could be used against a new dishwasher ...

Thanks again,

G

^^^ Yes, no heat was the problem. I recall now ... it's the heater relay in the ECU which failed, the equivalent of our fuel pump relays I guess.

$120 (or less if you replace the relay yourself) is still a lot cheaper than a new unit. The relay is a known weak link I believe.

I can send you a useful guide I found online if you have email.

Hah, just found this link from a random search Bosch Dishwasher Heater Relay Repair ...

I don't know, it steams like crazy on the dry part of the test and it dries the machine. Your machine and that reference (thanks!) are much older units.

I also want to avoid being without a dishwasher for too long. If I order the EC board and it isn't it, I'll have another week, probably. If I order a new dishwasher now, I may get lucky and be running it in a few days!?

Try turning off the electric power at the circuit breaker switch to reboot.

It is hooked up to an outlet - done that several times.

I have had it. This is not worth my time. Going to order something. Only issue is it is WHITE and there isn't anything white in stock. Stainless is still hip.

Might be faster to order the ECU ... are you forgetting there's a "lockdown" ?
