Practicing Social Distancing - My Version

I see a lot of fishing in my future for the next few months. It’s about the only thing open! This was at Grand Lake in Oklahoma yesterday.

Looks like your boat shrunk Matt. :D

Lots of projects on my farm...kind of a blessing if forced to self quarantine.

I have also been looking at small fishing boats, this may be the time to buy.

Lol, my boat sucks for fishing. We went with another dad and kids and chattered two small center consoles with guides. Ours reminded me of Larry the Cable Guy.:D

What kind of fish is that ? That looks like what killed The crocodile hunter !! I did not know lakes had fish that looked like that .
Good stuff Matt, keep it up. I may have to enjoy some lake time as well .
Got my kid off the computer last night, and we shot 50 or so rounds .

Ok. I'm glad to know that I am to the only one who has no idea what that fish is!

What the heck is it?!?

LEAKYSEALS951 03-17-2020 06:42 AM

Paddlefish?

Yeah, Spoonbill. Most are 50-100 lbs, we caught several in the 70 lbs range. It’s a good workout!

I like your sister's version but all of the ski areas are closed in the west. :(

Great catch!!!

I’ve found open carry effective for social distancing, especially when I wear my fuched up nam vet cap.

My sister does ski patrol and avy control at Telluride and snow science (e.g. training) in the San Juans, and guides heli-skiiing trips with an outfit in Alaska in the spring (nearly all those clients are European, so it's all canceled and no work), and one way or another, presumably by virtue of being a patroller (and a very good skier), she's able to ski wherever she wants. She is the lower skier in the photo.

Wow....that's a whopper, Matt!

onewhippedpuppy 03-17-2020 09:50 AM

Unfortunately many of the people coming back from ski trips in CO are going to be told to quarantine. Sounds like the ski towns and resorts must be a hot spot for this crap.

javadog 03-17-2020 09:54 AM

Catch some crappie, they taste better...

I've never seen a three bottle setup like that. I use "Bidon-kadonks", double underseat bottles with 2 on the frame up front. In the hot season, that will get me 40 miles. In the 65-75 temp seasons, that will get me 60 miles.

Surprise! 4 bottles (I really hate people!) :D

This keeps the weight off my back when I am extreme social distancing. Last weekend's ride was a two day get-outta-dodge event.

The bottom bottle catches mud, but that builds character. I like the underseat bottles (like you have) too.

It was Monday, I couldn't keep it anyway.

javadog 03-17-2020 03:45 PM

OK, I’ll bite. What does Monday have to do with it? Crappie take the day off?

My Trek has a two bottle cage attached to the back of the seat - not underneath.

Then two more cages on the frame.

4 bottles total.

Plus a Camelback for special occasions... :D

Can’t keep spoonbill on Mondays. I think Friday too. Otherwise the limit is one.

Women, too :). That’s where she was in the photo.

unclebilly 03-17-2020 07:35 PM

I thought paddlefish were only in the Yang Tse river and the Missouri River?

My dad caught 2 in Montana in the 80’s. It was a snag fishery that involved running down the bank as it collapsed trying to reel in a 150 lb fish on the end of a Dacron line...
