a 68 yr old man can expect to be live for at least another 20 years

don't confuse life expectancy at birth (the usual stat. given in the media) with life expectancy when you are already at age xx

it will vary based on your own genetics, exposure to smokers, other risk factors, etc. -- and also with medical advances (as you well know)

sammyg2 03-19-2020 11:46 AM

What if you got lots of hard miles?

RWebb 03-19-2020 11:46 AM

it's not the age, it's the mileage

sammyg2 03-19-2020 12:01 PM

Cool, had me worried for a minute!
Oh wait ...

Hell, I'd be happy to have a few "spare" hundred thousand in cash that could be invested in the market. Or, I had a crystal ball and had sold off 90% of my investments/401k/IRA between Christmas and Feb 15 and could now start putting that back into the market.

But, I don't have the spare cash and I didn't sell, so I won't be able to do anything crazy, but I will be leaving what's in the market in the market until the market goes back up.

Get rid of bad debt. Debt on an investment is not bad as long as the investment is not bad.

Being able to service the debt takes a lot of worries away.
