What kind of fruit is this if it's no pomelo?

So my wife asks me to pick her up some pomelos when I'm as Safeway. She has been bringing them home lately. I'm not real familiar with them but they sure smell similar to grapefruit: I guess thats' why they're called "grapefruit pomelos" at Safeway.

I brought a couple of these home. I got them from the same place in the same isle she told me to find them, but they are not as evenly round shaped as the ones she would bring home. Mrs. Hendog says these taste sweeter and a little different than the "round" ones. So these seem to be a variation on the pomelo she would bring home, but I don't know what this is in this case. Anyone know what this is?

Yeah, some Chinese fruit, based on the label. :D

I have had those. My in-laws has a tree that bears those fruit. Those thing will hurt you if they fall off the tree. Big, much bigger then grape fruit. That's what we call them anyway. We eat them occasionally. Really sweet but you don't eat the inner skin unlike an orange. We eat only the pulp.

We don't have those at our markets. Not even the Asian markets

Hi Hendog- Your fruit is a Meizhou Golden Pomelo (aka: Honey Pomelo)

These are the characters on the sticker from your photo: 梅州金柚 (I have a limited ability to read Mandarin, but I can navigate a dictionary by counting brushstrokes of each character)

It's out of Guangdong Province and is described as such..."Meizhou Golden Pomelo fruit is large, beautiful in appearance, straight in fruit shape, and gourd-shaped; the skin is yellow, smooth, even, and clean; the flesh is sweet and refreshing, has a honey flavor, and is crispy and slag. It is rich in nutrients and high medicinal value, and because it is resistant to storage and transportation, it can be stored for half a year without changing its flavor under natural ventilation, so it is also called "natural canned food". ...That sounds pretty tasty and healthy!

Here's the quick link (your browser should be able to auto-translate)...

WHen I see fruit labeled pomelo at my local Whole Foods, they look like green grapefruit. Another name for Pomelo is "Chinese Grapefruit." I think I've read that Pomelos are one of the ancestors of a lot of the citrus that we eat. There's an Asian family in my neighborhood that has a Pomelo tree in their yard. Their pomelos range from fat ovals to more pear shaped.

I think that's just a pomelo, maybe a different tree with different lineage or different growing environment or different care or slightly different variety.
