So I have this bottle of scotch.

I bought it to take to Taiwan. To share with my wife’s rowdy cousins. We can’t speak one word to each other but we get along awesome. Then this Effin virus shows up and I am forced to cancel my trip.

I cracked it open tonight. I’m buzzed and on lockdown. Kinda scared.. no anxious. Not scared.

I cannot wait until this bull-krap is over when I can buy another bottle, step on a plane and get plowed under the table by a bunch of skinny ass, hard drinking Taiwanese dudes.

I miss normalcy. I miss it bad.

Thanks for the vent.

Ya, but what about the Scotch? Is it good? Lagavulin? Oban? Laphroaig? You’re leaving me hangin’ man!

vash 03-21-2020 08:54 PM

McCallen 12 year triple cask. Pretty good bang for the buck. Not my jam usually but her cousins love it.

Feelin no pain. :)

Hendog 03-21-2020 08:57 PM

You could have done much worse! Hey, you may be on to the cure there! At least it’s worth trying eh?

That is my favorite Scotch.

Try it with Diet Dr. Pepper or Diet Pepsi. Both taste better with Scotch than the "normal" sugar variety. Don't know why.

So, were you going to Taiwan for a wedding or just a visit?
And just so you don't feel you're drinking alone...
I'm joining you.

We will all get through this Vash - I am just hoping it wont eff up hunting season. They really should allow it, if done solo, which is my preference anyway.

Take care and PM / email if you need anything, including more whiskey, I stopped over a year ago and have a good stash remaining!

Right there with you buddy! I had a couple of beers (Boulevard Tank 7, Bell's Oberon), followed with a Japanese Suntori whiskey and finally an Early Times bourbon. All over the course of a late afternoon/evening. Fortunately my wife joined me for a couple of beers on her side, so I wasn't drinking alone.

I agree that this is all very sad. The impact on individual lives, and having all of the things we enjoy taken from us. I know why, I get it. But I still miss it. I'm a social person, my wife and I frequently go out to eat, either just us or with friends, or go sit at a brewery at the bar and just grab a beer. I like people, I like being around people. Sitting at home sucks.

It looks like your bottle has a really bad leak. Better get another new bottle.

I hadn't thought of it that way. I've been living alone for 30 years, since my divorce. I'm private but not isolated since I do have a small social circle and a family. I'm completely comfortable eating alone, occupying my time with my interests and not having someone here to share my thoughts with. So I have to imagine what it's like for someone who prefers the company of others and I hope they have some sort of outreach available.

My daughter and I went for a long ride on the Ural yesterday. It’s nice having her home with us...she makes a great hack-monkey. Was 80 in N. Ga yesterday. Motorcycling will proceed with gusto this spring. No contact with others and very little traffic to deal with.

Also, a bit of tennis. Social distancing doesn’t have to limit everything.

jwasbury 03-22-2020 07:44 AM

Going for a bicycle ride today with a buddy. We will stay 6ft apart.

And yes to whiskey. Can’t have too much supply during times like this.

Was wondering where you've been C, still kicking I see!

I'll be home at least until end of April - work from home + 3 weeks of F1 shutdown. I'm planning on finishing these "samplers" and getting a proper bottle or two during that time. I'm sure any business will help them right now.

Just before it all kicked off in the UK, my friend had his 40th birthday. We got him a bottle of Nikka Coffey Grain and this for the occasion. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to taste the Armagnac and it could be a while before we can. Assuming he doesn't finish it all by then!

Working from home means first round of drinks start at 17h, every day... This is not good for our beer and wine stock. We've had a couple virtual pub sessions already.

Crank up Comfortably Numb and veg out.

Yeah, and I've got a bottle of Chianti Classico Reserva 2012 (with the Black Rooster) that we will probably uncork tonight with the meatloaf....

It doesn’t excessively bother me, I have travelled a lot for work alone and have no issue sitting at the bar alone for dinner. But I definitely prefer the company of others. I’m just a people person I guess. But I do feel for those that are alone in their lives and then isolated due to the virus. At least quarantine for me still includes my wife and three kids.

I am not really a whiskey person, but I found this super sweet peanut butter flavored drink that I totally love, and which most certainly kills coronavirus:

I just bought a replacement MacCallan (all a's - no e) 12 year double cask just last week as my previous one ran dry :(

Byron, I do like the Oban 14 as well.
