Wireless security?

I live in a typical upper middle class neighborhood. No retail businesses at all, just single family homes, with three car garages and their own yards.

I suspect every house has a WIFI router, and there are lots of signals out there if I search for signals.

My router has a bunch of choices for security of the WiFi. Everything from:
WPA2 Personal
WPA3 Personal
WPA/WPA2 Personal
WPA2/WPA3 Personal
WPA2 Enterprise
WPA/WPA2 Enterprise.

Right now I am only running WPA2 Personal security with a good strong password. Is there any real need to ramp up to higher security protocols? Will my cell phones and laptop even connect to Enterprise level stuff? I have not played with the different protocols as I feel sure it will kill the connection when it changes and I really don't know if it is necessary to go through it.

How secure is WPA2 Personal? Will the iPhone and iPads connect OK to to higher level security?

Your iphones/pads should connect fine to the high level encryption protocols; however, you should also be just fine in your residential neighborhood using WPA2. To really put your mind at ease, if anyone REALLY wants to crack into your wi-fi, it doesn't take much skill to do so, even with the security set up. So many tools out today...

One thing you can do to your router is to disable all MAC addresses except for yours and your families phones and computers.

That's a pretty good way of ensuring security. Much tighter than just enabling the password protected WPA2.

Correct, WPA2 can be hacked but locking it down to only your MAC addresses will help

House is 1/2 mile from Glen's. Until a year ago I had not even a password on my wifi. The only reason I went to security is an old lady neighbor's nurses kept using my wifi because they kept forgetting her password. 2 houses away, my wifi was slow for them. Turned on password so they would used the old lady's wifi and quit complaining. The old lady was the one that ask me if I could help them get faster wifi. She was a stock holder in the company I work for.

Never noticed anyone getting on otherwise.

WPA2 does encrypt the traffic on your wifi network. To encrypt it once it leaves your router to public internet you must use a VPN that installs a client on your computer or router.
