Another common rust spot is the shelf just above each upper front suspension component. Road gravel and salt can accumulate there and cook the metal. Easy spot to clean and rust proof once you have the car.

Thanks!

So went and looked at the '65 MGB this morning. It's too rusty to be worth saving. Outer body is good but entire rockers/structure are rusted out. Shop owner where it's being stored agreed.

Sooo...shop owner has a complete numbers matching '69 MGC-GT with factory overdrive and fabric sunroof (extremely rare). Car is on a rack inside a Conex box so I was able to look all under it...body is solid and as rust free as they come. It's complete but engine/trans are out sitting next to it. I might be dragging that one home this weekend to restore. Ugh. Too good to pass up. A C-GT's has always been my dream MG..and and MGC even more rare. Ugh again.

That's too bad on the 65. Back in the late 80's the BMH introduced full replacement body shells. I don't know if that program is still alive but in theory, you could take your nice components on a rusted out car and swap them over. I know nothing is that simple but I wonder if it might be a solution for this 65 if everything on the car is worth saving.

Good luck with the MGC-GT. Cool cars!

Is the shop local in NoCo Nick? Sounds pretty cool!

Understeer, thy name is MGC.

Unpopular opinion to follow:

I think the MGB GT is prettier than an E-Type coupe . . . I hate the narrow track on the Jags.

Agree. Always loved the MGB/C GT. Never been a Jaguar E-type fan.

Yeah, but more power, more rare, and from what I have read the understeer can be dialed out with suspension mods.

Guess it’s some super secret shop.....

MGC-Gt!

Nice score!

I tried to buy one circa 1989 and the DB that owned it was convinced it was a factory one-off race car. Damn. I wanted that.

The exhaust note from the 6 is off the charts. I get to play with a big healey every now and again and they sound so very very good.

Better managed might be a more accurate way to describe it. Modern tires and uprated sway bar and quicker steering are all nice upgrades (which I did on my MGC roadster) but the weight is still there. Not objectionable for a GT sort of car.

A good MGC is worth tracking down and keeping. CGTs can get a bit warm however...

Thanks for the tips. I am thinking build an MGC Sebring tribute car with it, street on the inside/tribute on the outside.

They "restore" one on this episode:

Not to direct anyone away from here by there is a pretty active and extremely experienced MGC subgroup on the mgexp.com, worth checking out and reading through the last several years of topics.

Brake set up on these cars is somewhat different than typical it all needs to be sorted out to work effectively, not hard, just generally requires booster rebuilds etc. Some goods shops that do that that can be referred.

Sebring cars are super cool, suits the CGT in my opinion. Don't be shy if any help is needed. Have fun!

Not a problem.

Enjoy seeing more classics in the FTC area.

I like that you put "restore" in quotes. Having done a full rotisserie on a car (with my own 2 hands and 4 years) I find most of the "restoration" shows on TV to be not real restorations.

The car is at a shop in Denver. It's been in a Conex box for about 10 years with the engine and transmission out. Owner says it's all there but I'd need to go have them pull it all out so I can inspect up close in daylight. I was able to look at it in the Conex box on a ladder (it's on an upper rack) which did allow me to go under it and see it's virtually rust free but looking with a flashlight is a bit limited. Awesome plaque on the dash that the car was driven on the Indianapolis motor speedway in 1988.

They spend some serious $ on that MGB if I remember correctly... I remember your Corvair restoration.

Fortunately it sounds like the dry climate here helped and it was kept dry in the box.

I always thought it would be cool to take a Triumph Spitfire and put a modern 3.5 V6 out of a Toyota or Nissan in it . Instant 250 hp with not much added weight . What a sleeper that could be .
