Saw him being interviewed by some Eyewitless News guy at the F1 race in Long Beach in 1976. I believe he was there to drive in a vintage F1 demonstration race. Phil Hill was the translator as both spoke Italian. The interviewer asked Fangio if he and all F1 drivers had a death wish. Hill, to his credit, said he couldn't translate the (moronic) question from a fellow American (it was too inane). Fangio was laughing during the exchange. I think his English was pretty good.

I watched that entire show last night. Loved it !!

I never realized that he was that old, and raced for so many teams and won at all of them.

IIRC, there was a story in C&D or R&T that year and it mentioned Fangio ripping around the track in one of the cars he drove back in the day... and more than a few spectators were seen wiping a few tears from their eyes.

His is a fantastic story.

The footage of his Argentinian career is amazing.

He came across as a true gentleman and he was well dressed off the track.

Required viewing is so true.

I liked where Prost's wife would yell at him when he would drive too fast on the street with her in the car and ask him if he thought he was Fangio.
