Never been really heartbroken over celebrity passings but this feels different. Chris cornell and j cash made brought me down a bit but not luke this.
Prine's music really made me feel like he was an old friend. He was so obviously humble, brilliant, hilarious, and philosophical and i truly admired him. |

Go to near the end of this article. There is a John Prine play list that is just great.

jason isbell, sturgill simpson, chris stapleton, etc
Aint nobody going to replace a one in a trillion guy like john prine, but there are some younger great singer songwriters around Then again I love hiphop, which has unfortunately been largely ruined in the last 15-20 years.

When I die let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam I'll be halfway to Heaven with Paradise waitin' Just five miles away from wherever I am

When I heard him sing "there's a hole in Daddy's arm where all the money goes" I knew he was special.

The last time I saw Prine - 10/1/19, on a warm evening north of LA at the John Anson Ford Theater
I didn't shoot this next one, but if you haven't seen it before you should check it out! John - I know you had to quit, but I hope you're no longer jonesing and you get to smoke your "nine-mile-long" cigarette. And if I ever get to heaven, maybe I can burn one with John Prine...

^^^^ double thank you. I had tickets to see him this summer and will regret not having tried harder to go see him previously. I didn't really get to know his music until well into my adult years but he's one that really tells a story and makes you feel something.

Thank you for post 53. Loved that video.
Prine had a way of saying a few relatable words that suggested whole stories. “How the hell can a person, Go to work in the morning And come home in the evening And have nothing to say “ Those few words say so much about the marriage, and about that person, and about how painfully lonely the singer must feel.

I'm glad I had them, and I'm glad you liked them.
And of course, he closed the show with Paradise: "When I die let my ashes float down the Green River Let my soul float on up to the Rochester Dam. I'll be halfway to heaven with Paradise waiting Just five miles away from where ever I am." RIP buddy. And thanks for the joy. Ps - sorry for the bumpy video - I had pretty good seats, and I think it was the resonance from the bass that kept me from holding my camera still.

Some cool stories… So glad I saw that last tour….ive struggled to listen to him since he died. Felt the same when JJ Cale died. Took a while before I could. I just put on on my beautiful translucent green vinyl copy of Tree of Forgiveness for the first time in years. So great.
Here’s a compilation

A few snippets from Donald And Lydia, one of his earlier tunes: Lydia Lydia hid her thoughts like a cat Behind her small eyes sunk deep in her fat She read romance magazine up in her room And felt just like Sunday on Saturday afternoon Bunk beds, shaved heads, Saturday night A warehouse of strangers with sixty watt lights Staring through the ceiling, just wanting to be Lay one of too many, a young PFC Donald There were spaces between Donald and whatever he said Strangers had forced him to live in his head He envisioned the details of romantic scenes After midnight in the stillness of the barracks latrine
