Dealing With Dog Hair

Looking for suggestions to cut down on the amount of dog hair around the house.

I've tried the typical stuff...regular bathing, "designer" foods, air purifiers, still not able to stay on top of the issue.

Lots of you guys have some beautiful dogs which I'm sure has raised this challenge. What are you doing to keep the hair from taking over.

Randy

frequent brushing and frequent vacuuming. I don't really think there's any good solution other than not having a dog with a lot of hair (which I'm not recommending).

Brush, brush, and then brush some more.

Or shave it...

Getting close for our rough coat border collie to blow her coat.
You wouldn’t think that a 40 lb dog could have that much fur on her.
The Furminator seems to do a darn good job but she tired of the game quickly so I only get to do one part at a time.

Our two Pugs we currently have, leave hair everywhere. They have to go down a flight of stairs to go through the doggy door and I can vacuum the steps on Monday and by Wednesday there will be hair piled in the corners! We tried all the products and brush them daily but that's the way they are. As already mentioned run your Roomba once or twice a day and vacuum everywhere it can't get to.

Mine is right at about 50 lbs, and he's just non-stop. He's a mix of Vizsla, Sheltie and Chow Chow...but looks similar to a german shepard. He hates being brushed, so that's a struggle, too. I have a brush similar to a Furminator, or are you talking about the vacuum attached version. No way he would sit through THAT brushing without attacking the vacuum...

Thanks!

We limit where Beau is allowed to go, but unfortunately, that area is right off the kitchen. Nothing worse than pet hair on the counters when you're getting ready to prepare a meal. Same issue...sweep up the hair with the floor duster and literally hours later, there is more hair.

I use a Furminator (Golden Retr.)

every day...

the hair tends to clump up - I praised a woman's lab one time for having short hair & she explained that short hairs just meant it was harder to clean the house

robot vacs seem to choke on long dog hair

match the dogmobile's fabric interior to the dog's coat color & the same for any sweaters worn by family members

leather or vinyl car interiors help

Doesn't really worry me. I vacume the house once a week and the loose fur leaves the house at that time. Two Border Terriers.

Buy a Shark vacuum. Amazes me how much cat fur it picked up that the old sears unit left behind. Another big plus..Cindy says it's easy to use. Now if only I could find a lawn mower she'd say the same about.

Beautiful.

We restrict their access to dog only areas. We use a few of these: https://officialdoghouse.com/collections/indoor-dog-gates

The Den is dog heaven. The sofa is covered with removable fabric that gets the most hair and is washable and we have great hand vacuums. Since we spent the bulk of our time there and in the kitchen (which is next to the Den, the dogs are comfortable and never challenge the barriers.

Works for us but I don't allow the dogs in bed, bedroom, etc...not my thing.

Furminators do a great job on fur. Also, you can buy cheap latex (not nitrile) gloves from Amaon and use your hands to brush them. A lady at the local pet food/supply store gave me that advice and it worked well (although not as well as the furminator).

Roomba does a great job of picking it up. Just need to be aware of needing to clean the brushes when needed. I park a small shop vac next to it's charging station. Makes the cleaning process easy...less than a minute to clean the roomba up...then ready to go for the next few cleanings.

I want a roomba the size of my shop vac.

We have a Yellow Lab. We had a German Shedder. At one time we had a Samoyed, Black Lab and Golden Retriever - all at once. You just have to accept the fur and clean up like mad when someone comes over. But keeping the lab to just the hardwood and out of the bedrooms does help. And two Dyson Animal vacuums.

Hard floors makes the hair more visible, because it clumps in corners. It's also a lot easier to clean.

Carpets seem to hold a lot more hair, and it's less visible.

Brush golden retreiver daily with standard dog brush. She loves it. Usually do outside, weather permitting.
Vaccum with small portable battery operated stick vac daily. Gets and hand full every day.

Shedding season use an undercoat brush like shown above.. She only tolerates it.

Every other week maid vacuums more thoroughly including under things with dust ruffles, sweeps and mops hardwoods, dusts, and wash bedding where dog sleeps.
Dryer lint filter catches 2 handfulls of dog hair.

Got used to hair that is left.

Noticed when changed living area to hardwood got a lot more dust and dog hairs on stuff.

These things are really outstanding at getting the hair out, and our pup that passed away last year preferred this to any other brush or method we'd ever tried.
