BMW Roundel It's not a Porsche or even a turbo

2009 Mini Cooper R56 2 door hatchback. Purchased it inexpensive (less than $4K) about a year ago to teach my kids how to drive a stick and how to work on cars. I have not worked on cars since my 20s, about 30 years ago, and forgot how much fun it is to tinker or work on car. The two with driver licences, took them awhile to learn a stick, but they finally took hold of it. They also learned how to change a tire, rotate tires, check fluids, and change the oil. The two young kids hang around the garage while I work on the Mini.

Fun little car to work on. In the last year, changed side mirrors, added decals, installed oil pressure and water temp gauges, added a grill badge, changed side marker bulbs to LED, changed front and rear shocks, changed rear trailing arm, fixed the sagging sunshade, added magnetic phone holder, fixed the finicky sunroof, made a hitch to hold a "gone fishing" basket, changed the intake pipe, replaced headlight connectors, fixed the gas cap tether, replaced O2 sensor, made the spare mount fit again, added mud flaps, temp fix on the bad radio reception, changed the engine air filter, replace headlight trim, fixed the bonnet latch, changed the door courtesy light, fixed the arm rest, fixed the rusty bumper and hitch, and added a Sprint Booster.

When I can, I made YouTube channel on fixing the Mini so to help others who might run into the same problems.

Most Original:

My 1969 Porsche 912 in Tangerine. Numbers matching car I purchased almost 10 years ago from CA. I've made a few updates (new calipers/pads,brake lines, top-end rebuild w/ external oil cooler, houndstooth center seats) but have tried to keep the car as original as it left the showroom floor some 50+ years ago.

I am posting two photos of my 1977 Porsche 911 Carrera tribute car for the Pelican Parts Virtual Car Show Contest. The first photo is for the Best In Show category and is a photo I shot of my car in my home town of Westlake Village, California. The second photo is for the DIY category and shows a picture of me installing the Carrera stripe on the car.

Social distance and stay safe during the pandemic.

2018 Audi S3 in Porsche Green

I am entering a picture of my 2018 Audi S3 in the Best Modified photo category. The car was special ordered painted in the Audi Exclusive Porsche GT3 RS Green and has nearly all available Audi S3 options. The car has been modified with a CTS Turbo turbo-back high-performance exhaust system, an Integrated Engineering Carbon Fiber performance cold air intake, H&R lowering springs, and Stage 2 ECU software upgrade. Very rare to see an S3 in this Porsche Green color. Enjoy!

DIY Project 1965 Porsche vin 301731
Purchased in 1978 with lots of rust
I wanted a Cabriolet/Targa so I stared the Project.
Reinforce the pan and ran 1x2 inch tub steel from rear to front, top and bottom of pan.
Added a widebody kit, RSR front bumper and Turbo wing.
DIY all but paint. Finished most of the project in 1985,
Added Turbo wing in 2000, painted center of wheels black last year.
Added the number 50 last year on November 1, our 50 Anniversary.

For consideration as best DIY (?) my 1973 911T-RS tribute. Over the course of just over 6 years I stripped her down and put her back together. Qualtech in San Diego did the bodywork and paint (LOTS of rust repairs), Autos International in Escondido did the carpet, and Jae Lee set up the suspension. Once I got to Washington, Al Kosmal built a cool retro-look EFI for my 3.0. What did I do? I took it all apart and put it all back together again, including replacing the wiring harnesses. Lots of upgrades along the way, too, like bigger aluminium Brembos up front, functional oil cooler and ducting in the nose, and reinforced suspension points. What a learning experience! By the way, this car was purchased by my father-in-law in the 70’s and has been in the family ever since.

At the halfway point:

Thanks for looking!

I'd like to be considered for:

Best in Show
• Best Maintenance - (include description of maintenance, this can even be a photo of you doing maintenance on your car) – judging based on overall appearance and
expertise
• Best DIY Project - (include description of do-it-yourself project) – judging based on creativity, originality, passion and expertise

Maintenance

This was my first real project car. In two years time while daily driving it, I did:

transmission output/selector shaft seal leaking
-transmission mounts (were collapsed)
-Power steering/power brake system--all hoses, reservoir, accumulator. All were leaking/cracked.
-New rebuilt front brake calipers guide bolts, painted silver
-New front suspension/steering components:
--Center link
--tie rods
--upper, lower control/thrust arms
--Bilstein shocks/custom pressed/spring rate/height cobra suspension springs
--sway bar bushings, end links
Rear suspension:
-Every single rear suspension bushing, due to shaking, noises, rear end sliding, etc.
--lower control arm bushings, rear trailing arm bushings, upper control arm bushings, steering knuckle ball joints, whatever else. I pressed all bushings myself, was new for me. Had to grind my own bushing press tools from steel piping
-Alcantara cream headliner, a,c pillars. Grey suede rear deck

Engine/bay
-Entire cooling system, all hoses, aux pump etc
-heater core(!)
-All pulleys, belts, tensioners (had to get a custom secondary alternator belt made)
-Top end refresh from cylinder head up
-Every rubber fuel hose (all were cracked/leaking), fuel filters
-new fuel vapor valve/hoses
-new washer tank, pumps
-Rebuilt headlight washer system (cut new hoses, lines, repaired motors)
-Dual air horns
-engine mounts
-Full transmission service
-Removed rusted/cracked mufflers, replaced quad tips

Exterior:
-Full cut polish, seal etc. Took 3 full days
-Lip spoiler (trunk)
-CSI front end
-New FTP front lights
-new headlight low beam projectors
-LED bulbs in all lighting, using PTC resistors and standard ones where necessary
-Racing dynamics rear diffuser
-Repainted/restored all black exterior trim, replaced where parts were available (multiple front grilles, etc)
Wheels:
-18X12 R ET 7
18X10.5 F ET -3
Custom built BBS style 5 faces, stepped out to 18" in 3 piece, Foose

Interior:
-New gear installed in rear sunblind (wasn't working)
-1 or 300 Lotus white interior installed
-Android tablet install with equalizer, molded console
-2x JL 8" stealthbox subwoofers fitted under rear deck
-Focal 6.5" Flax component speakers front, made custom speaker mounts
-All new wiring for all stereo components
-New custom Euro 3 spoke steering wheel, M stitching, thumb spots
-2 new Bosch batteries, all cabling
-New wiring loom for trunk wiring
-rebuilt sunroof guides, track, teeth, etc (none of it worked)

I'm certain there is more...if it would be better suited to a different/another category, please do.

Original 914-6

My current 1970 914-6 has a good ownership chain that I was able to document while still possible. I'm the 8th owner, and I have located and spoken to 5 of the previous 7 owners (one is in his 90's).

The 1st owner bought it as a demo leftover at Wood Motors in Detroit in June 1971. The dealer had used it as a pace car at the local club track.

The 3rd owner (now passed away) had it for 5 years, having Stoddard Import Cars upgrade it in 1974 to 914-6 GT brakes and suspension, hand formed flares, stout 2.6L with a close ratio box, etc. Used mainly for DE and autocross events, it was repainted in the early 1980's in the original Irish Green which today shows off nearly 40 years of fun with pride. Chuck Stoddard and Dave Klima saw it last summer and remembered the car and it's owner well (they became friends).

The 4th owner moved to Europe and has not yet reached out to me; he lost the car in a divorce in 1982.

The 7th owner had the car 28 years, now in his 80's but still active.
