ProTip: don't get your testing kits and masks at Harbor Freight

Corollary:
Stop shopping at Walmart and Costco who are little more than clearinghouses for PRC-made junk. Change starts here. Now. |

#2 - We sent China a bunch of PPE during the crisis. If they had been honest with the world, we would have kept out stockpiles. |

I posted this on the Harbor Freight thread, and got some pushback. Probably more appropriate here.

Not everyone lives in that society, but yes I agree that it would be a bright spot.

One of our hospitals in Australia a friend works at got a container of PPE from China.
They opened the container, looked through the stuff and bought a skip across and binned the lot. Not a single usable mask or gown in the entire container. Mouldy, damaged, torn packaging for 'sterile' gear, you name it. My hospital has critical levels of PPE left, but we've been told not to worry because "there's a container load on the way" http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/sad2.gif The guys here have mostly resigned themselves to getting COVID; no-one goes 12 months and never makes a single PPE mistake and / or has 12 months of 'good luck' every single shift. . |
There is a 'me' in team if you look carefully

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-08/japan-to-fund-firms-to-shift-production-out-of-china?utm_source=url_link
Japan has earmarked $2.2 billion of its record economic stimulus package to help its manufacturers shift production out of China as the coronavirus disrupts supply chains between the major trading partners. The extra budget, compiled to try to offset the devastating effects of the pandemic, includes 220 billion yen ($2 billion) for companies shifting production back to Japan and 23.5 billion yen for those seeking to move production to other countries, according to details of the plan posted online. The move coincides with what should have been a celebration of friendlier ties between the two countries. Chinese President Xi Jinping was supposed to be on a state visit to Japan early this month. But what would have been the first visit of its sort in a decade was postponed a month ago amid the spread of the virus and no new date has been set. Continued in link.
