Yes. That is the setup I was talking about. You cuold make your own (if handy) as well. Mine was a '65. Folks also got the head milled to raise compression slightly and did the same to lighten the flywheel. You can send that '66 to my house to live if you are tired of it. Should never have sold mine (did put 260K miles on it first though). I was fine with the 3 speed...(guess I had low standards)...but always wished I had the rare...optional 4 speed.

I have a G50...but I actually like my 915 car better...probably due to the 7:31 and 15 inch wheels. It is also is a little lighter....with similar horsepower. I rarely drive either very fast, but like to accelerate...so the higher top end does not benefit me much. I made sure that I got an '89 back when they were $20K or less...because the G50 and '89 oil cooler setup were considered the holy grail here on Pelican. It is probably wasted on a barbarian like me.

The stock 3 speed was fine until the master cylinder bolts broke and it torqued it to the side applying the brakes, breaking the brake line. The only way I could stop was to coerce it into 1st gear damaging it in the process.

I did it.

I took my 96 Land Cruiser in to a repair shop for exhaust work.

Two oxygen sensors (one blown out, the other about to), Cats and some other rusted bits need to be replaced.

I even, gasp, asked them to remove the trailer hitch bits while they were in there so I can have it powder-coated and I'll reinstall.

Parts and labor, $1450.

$1450. I'd sell a kidney not to have to work on an exhaust, especially an older LC with the original exhaust (I called my buddy who sold it to me). I'm sure all the car guys are tsk-tsking.

There is perhaps no more unpleasant task than exhaust work on an old vehicle. Rusted fasteners, dirt raining down upon you, heavy jagged bits of rusty metal, ugh. Money well spent.

I replaced both O2 sensors on my daughters 5.0 Mustang a few weeks ago. Thankfully they are really easy to get too and R&R.

However I paid about what you did to have 1974 Heat exchangers, muffler, different tin and heating parts put on my 1978 VW bus in order to backdate it and get rid of the complicated later system. I sourced all the parts etc. with the thoughts of doing it myself and in the end decided to let a pro handle it. I am very pleased with the work he did (as usual) and I didn't have to lay on my back fighting 40 year old parts.

BTW, folks, and I love the OWP like the little brother I never had, Matt is the genuine deal.

His work, to quote my Father when he gave his highest compliment, is "sanitary".

The work he did on my Father's RX-7 was terrific. My wife is still driving the POS 4Runner he unloaded on me 250k or so miles ago. There should be laws...

Not nearly enough, although I took it for a nice spin in the country on Sunday. Probably less that 1000 miles per year (for the past 10) due to long hours/commute I usually do (in a car that I don't mind leaving in a parking lot when working in DC. Hopefully that will change next year.

I don't do exhausts myself any more either. Stopped painting too.

I put rusty exhaust fasteners on my sandwich bread, and eat them with mustard. It's a way of life here in Pa.

Do you ever work on exhausts fastners that are NOT rusty?

New cars get rusty exhaust fasteners from the factory I am convinced.

I don't mind exhaust work. An angle grinder with 5" cut-off, small hand-held with 2", oxy-mapp and a proper face shield and it's pretty easy. The key to exhaust work is don't try to save anything, cut it off or melt it out. Replace it all, once, and it's done for life.

These things are fantastic for any kind of metal work involving cutting, grinding, wire brushing. A wire brush needle in your eye can ruin your whole day.

Same two bolt flange on a customer's Sequoia. Paid muffler guy $100 just to craft a piece with a new bung that had blown out. No way would I attempt to fix that.

To replace major components on that exhaust system is eye-opening as to cost.

She's rockin' the P0420 (catalyst efficiency) OBD code as well, even after the sensor fix.

Which makes me wonder about those variable tone exhausts on the new Mustangs that the young guys love so much...how well those will work after a winter of salted roads.

You are too kind my friend. The RX7 and my 911SC were peak garage for me, I miss both terribly. I don’t regret selling them to become debt free, but those two are the ones that got away.
