Landlords across the country have been left in the lurch after nearly one-third of apartment renters in the US didn't pay any of their April rent during the first week of the month, according to new data from the National Multifamily Housing Council to be released Wednesday.

I guess I'm having such a hard time relating to that because I've never lived pay check to pay check.

According to whichever article you happen to read, 50% of millennials have zero savings. None. Their credit card debt averages something like $6,500 each and their average school debt is $50k per. They have no 401K and live pchk to pchk in a service job.

Two weeks without work and most of them are completely dependent on the state or charity.

The greatest economy in history was wiped out in less than a month.

When I first moved to Oklahoma for a new job it was a 800 mile move. Setting up utilities, first and last month's rent, and the other costs left me with less than 25 bucks in my checking account and no more savings. I was just 23 and had not saved a lot as yet. My 914 was paid for, so no car payment and it was my only car. I lived on less than a buck per week for food. Lots of rice, potatoes and mac and cheese. My grandparents were still around and one reason I picked OKC was I felt pretty sure I could go hang out at their house on Sunday and get an invite to Sunday dinner. Heavenly food after my cooking.

I had a full time 40 hrs per week job and asked for any overtime possible. I ended up working on weekends as a wedding photographer and even mowed a few laws for more cash. I got ahead for awhile, then bought a house about two years before I really should have. That 12.5% mortgage was a killer bargain since the common rate was 18% at banks.

It took me a few years to get to the point of having some liquidity. It is hard as a single guy to make house payments, and all the other costs of owning a house.

I feel so lucky now to be at a point of owning a business that is still going as strong as before the China flu hit. I have no debt except the loan on the airplane for the company, and we have a big hunk of it paid off.

When I get my Federal money I plan to spend 100% on local businesses and really large tips at restaurants. We had a new cedar stockade fence put in yesterday by a local contractor with two employees happy to have a job.

The difference back then Glen, was that the forces of evil were telling us to borrow money. Now the benevolent government is basically throwing money at kids who were pushed through high school without math. With government guaranteed school loans and mortgages, 60-72month car loans, ready-to-go credit cards in the mail and boomer parents the whole money thing has been turned upside-down. Dumb kids + easy cash = debt bomb.

Oops.

Similar here - 1983? I moved from Bakersfield to Klamath Falls. I was about 25, licsensed aircraft mechanic since high school. $1600 a month. With first and last rent etc it was two weeks of scraping to get by in an empty cold house before I could retrieve the wife and belongings from Bakersfield. Thanks went out to my new neighbors, new employer and Oregon’s can and bottle recycling! Beans and tortillas...

Ended up buying the farmhouse for 40k at 13% feeling it was a great deal after dropping from 21% rates. Crazy. I Will Never Forget.

Just saw a TV news segment about a foodbank giveaway being held this morning in Anaheim....and spotted an E55 in the line. Must be that cost of living in SoCal!

#15 AND #17 - haha.

Now it is the millennials that have no savings. Sorry but he boomers have just as little. Look at the stats on how much they have saved.

And "greatest economy in history" destroyed in a month? You have to be kidding. House of cards came down for a lot of people. If 40% of the population can't deal with a $400 emergency then that was NOT a great economy. All we had was consumerism to the point where people couldn't hold back a buck for a rainy day. I know, a lot of people claim that the working poor have no way to get ahead, but I know a lot of working non-poor that just can't keep their hands off all the stuff that they *think* they need, so they can show it off on facebook.

I saw a brand new c-class merc do a door dash or whatever run to the neighbor's house the other day. At least someone is trying. ;)

^^^ Brutal. People had to qualify for those handouts and there looks to be some real hardship like the grandma raising four grandchildren. It still is surreal that everyone is burning gas to go get a handout like a bag of beans and a couple gallons of milk. I guess that's TX for you.

So what do you car model critics say in TX? All respectable looking vehicles, I guess, but no Camaros?

The people who really need free food don't drive nice cars. They take the bus or walk.

Those people are greedy freeloading assfaces with faces that look like ass.

aigel 04-11-2020 09:01 PM

I think many of these people will take the bus soon enough now that they don't need a vehicle to drive to a job anymore. I don't know if I would call them names. Easy to look down on people posting from a Porsche forum ... this thing hasn't run its course yet and I think we all will be glad if we come out of it in one piece financially and health wise.

You are so presumptuous it's incredible.

I am saying they are not the ones who need free food. Get it now?

rusnak 04-11-2020 10:07 PM

I give away each and every week a minimum of $1,050 each week to people who need to buy food. Not items equivalent to …..that much in cash. Each week. So people can eat. I have done so for years, as I say: Every. Week. Without fail.

I know who needs free food, and who they are.

Very presumptuous of you.
How do you know they don't need free food? If you haven't been paying attention, there are millions of people who had good jobs that could have supported payments for a nice car and who were suddenly out of work. When a two income family becomes a 0 income family overnight do you expect them to go hungry because they have a nice car?
