Funny, this being a car forum, I would expect that everyone could spot a paper drag race - you know where people theorize and argue about what well set up 944 beats what kinda set up 911. ..and lots of "math" to prove the obvious winner.

Well... look at this CV math. .. Oh look, this formula is clearly the winning formula. Anything else is stupid.

One thing is for sure. Our state epidemiologist, that now reins as a king in daily televised communiques, will comes fall either be the hero of the century or the most hated person in the country. People will be out in the back sheds reaching for pitchforks, tar and feather.

Could we all stop citing Chinese data for ANYTHING please? It’s been shown to be total and utter BS.

Speaking of BS, we don’t know the total number of people infected so this is mostly mental masturbation. My personal theory is that many of us have or will have the virus but be asymptomatic, making this entire exercise in social isolation a sham. At which point the fatality rate and rate of those hospitalized becomes an “is what it is” scenario. Furthermore I think the decimation to our economy will ultimately lead to more personal impact and loss of life than the virus ever will. The cure is worse than the disease.

So what is the better solution? Just say F’it and let it rip through in a month, and pick up the pieces?

Would that actually be any cheaper?

It’s pretty clear flatting the curve is working.

It’s just this is going to drag.

Middle aged, thanks for the compliment.,,

TIL: Apparently the chickenpox vaccine protects against shingles.

That would have devastated the current hotspots. I suspect it would also spread more rapidly, as people flee those areas.

Dad:
I get that. Just setting aside loss of life for a moment.

Would it have been cheaper to pick up the pieces or is it smarter to spread and prolong?

My guess is it would end up about the same cost in the end when all is said and done, but you would have people freaking out about patients in the street rather than in the hospital.

We are going to take lumps on this. I guess its about how you want to take those lumps which is the only choice in our control.

Lock down the hot spots locally and the high risk folks nationally. The impact of this in KS and other low density population states was never going to be anywhere near the magnitude of any dense urban area.

Would you track people like china when you say lock down the high risk folks?

No, that’s a violation of our basic civil rights. I was thinking more along the lines of PPE and no visitors to nursing homes, and other ways in which we can isolate those most likely to become very sick or die.

How? Are we ready to put the National guard at every state border and arrest or shoot people moving around?

Those at risk of hospitalization are...

65+ age
Obese
High blood pressure
Asthma
Diabetic

That leaves 79 people to run the country. And half of them are under age 12.

No. If they don’t heed the warnings then it’s on them. Personal responsibility, you can’t force people to take their own health seriously. Hence why cigarettes are legal, it’s your choice. Why should this be different?

It's not their health. It's the elderly people they encounter in public.

Considering the situation, if you are an elderly person out in public right now you are knowingly putting yourself at risk. That’s on you. It’s the reason why my parents are bored at home right now vs hanging out with their grandkids. Personal responsibility isn’t a novel concept.

Also the exact same reason why I keep my parents away when the flu is going around our house. 70+ and my dad has a heart condition, exactly the same deal. Pretty simple.

From your original context, I assumed the purpose of locking down people in hot spots would be to limit the spread to less affected areas.

If I was wrong and your intent would be to have local and state governments make the decisions about how to treat the areas under their control, then I agree but that's what's been happening isn't it?

Shutdown orders haven't come from the Fed.

Thankfully it finally closed...

I'm old. I basically need food and prescriptions, my kids live hundreds of miles away. Those are the two places I go. My grocery local delivery wait is three weeks right now.

And when I go out I see 'families' and 'groups' out on shopping expeditions to reduce their boredom.

But I guess that's on me, I'm irresponsible.

So you are good with asymptomatic carriers spreading cv19?

How is it my choice if I catch CV from the guy at the beach/store/park/wherever sneezing in my direction?
