No. The only two above that I owned were the last two in the first post. Both of those are custom shop reissues. Other than those, everything else is a real deal pre CBS era Stratocaster. As an FYI, there is at least one guitar from from every year from '54-'65.

Strat porn indeed!
I only have one, a 2000 USA Standard that is very lightly modded. She was my #1 all of 2019 and probably this year if we ever are allowed to gig again.

I've got a '65 transitional custom shop from 2005 right now that is the best sounding and feeling non vintage stratocaster I've ever heard or played. I'll add a pic of that. It has the stock '65 Custom Shop pickups in it. Those pickups are great. The stock pickups in the recent AV reissue '65s are really good too if you are looking for something that sounds kinda like the stuff from that era is supposed to. Not as good as the real thing, but really really good to me. It depends on what you want. Fender was always transitioning and there were several distinctly different magnet/wire/bobbin material combinations from '54-'65. There are a few small boutique PU winders who can capture the sound of whatever era you are looking for. |

A question from someone who wishes he had the synapse connections to play guitar.
What is the difference between a Strat and Telecaster? Lately I've been listening/watching a recording of the Eagles in Melbourne from their good bye tour. I notice they are constantly changing which guitars they are using. Is there really that much difference between them?

I have a strat and a tele and they are very different, specifically in my case because the tele is a 64 AVRI with a vintage radius and frets. My strat is a 2013 with modern radius and frets and obviously, a 5 way switch. I can get my strat to sound like a tele but not totally the other way around. and they definitely feel very different ive always wished I could be a player like say jerry Garcia who could do his thing with just 1 main guitar - his others were always back ups - but im just not. I love my gretches, love my fenders, love my PRS and SG and then ill pick up my Jag and go wowowowow this is amazing...….im more of a Mike Campbell kinda guitar guy I guess, even though Jerry is my fave

and by feel, I don't just mean how it feels with the left hand....they vibrate. I can feel my tele vibrating on my ribs in a way that makes me play like a beast. My SG, also vibrates my ribs a lot. With this vibration, my connection to the music is elevated in a way....but not always. my tele and strat and Jag also allow for a lot of vibration in the lower (register) strings, but I don't feel them so much in my ribs. I can play these in a way that is different than how I play my PRS for example. My Duo Jet I can basically do anything with, same, with my 6118. THough Ill say, not just because this is a strat thread, that the strat is a damn good choice for a do everything guitar....you basically could get by doing anything with just 1 strat. Truly a perfect instrument, especially when considering how affordable a nice American standard is
besides all that, yes they all sound very different

lastly Scott, when you see a player in a band on stage, like the eagles or petty, switch guitars every song, the reasons could be feel, sound or bad strings....but it could also be that a song calls for easy access to the fret board in a way that the previous guitar didn't allow....for a solo, for example. An SG is a lot easier to play above the 12th fret than a tele.....basically, they want the right tool for the job. The edge is another example of this....another example at the opposite end is johnny Ramone. he had the 1 perfect tool for the one job he had to do. The ultimate in simple minimalism and function.

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys.
I am kind of regretting never having gotten into music and playing guitar when I was younger. As I've grown older I've become more appreciative of the great guitar players I didn't pay attention to when growing up.

I have enough trouble as it is with carpel tunnel from playing this computer keyboard. Don't think taking up guitar at this stage would help it.
