testing my patient and running thin.

I can't find my thread about the crazy woman that called cops on my me because our jack hammer scared her dog so I will start this.

I can tolerate and have a ton of patient for stupid people but she's really pissing me off.

I am warping this job up for two weeks after this Friday because there's not much else we can do due to lack of materials with everyone shutting down their supply chains. I am almost done, its painted, electrical outlets installed but need hardwood floor installation. I have two guys working there. One to sweep and mop up the interior of the building. Another, my trash hauling guy to sweep the exterior, clean up and hose everything down. Cops come, threaten us to shut down and go home or else face a fine. They ask why? Cops tell them that the neighbor hear people coughing (my guy isn't sick and told me none were coughing) and she was upset that they are spreading Corona virus all over the neighborhood, so we had to shut down. Its essential and legal for us to continue working. People, including the cops jsut don't use common sense anymore. One person is inside and the other outside so how can the virus spread? I am temping to send them back tomorrow to finish cleaning. I want to leave the place clean. Dirty construction sites drive me nuts.

This btich has to stay home but want the whole world to stop and cater to her peace and quiet. This is the third time she call the cops on us. First was our jack hammer scaring her dog and reported me on animal abuse. Second one was she claimed we put our trash in her trash can. Cops opened up and it was all her house hold trash and walked away. Some people just suck. I feel sorry for my client having to deal with her.

Do you mean "patience"? You could sneak the clean up guy in to finish inside (by himself) and then send the outside guy (by himself) then you would not be violating any social distancing laws! Just a thought.

masraum 04-09-2020 03:31 AM

Thank goodness it's not your neighbor. Much better that she's mostly someone else's problem.

rusnak 04-09-2020 03:35 AM

I deal with this sort of thing all the time (neighbors calling the city). It's annoying for sure when they act beyond all reasoning, and weaponize the city with their hyper dial phone mode. If the city hasn't labelled the lady as a problem frequent flyer, then my advice is to just keep a low profile while you try to finish up and gtf out of Dodge.

techweenie 04-09-2020 03:40 AM

Similar situation here: 2 major renovations on our block. Neighbor who is otherwise mellow and rational has a wife fighting cancer and reacting very poorly to chemo. So he's under extreme stress. He's complained about construction noise, using the CV excuse. But Garcetti has stated construction is "essential" so the cops & city officials have told him to suck it up.

Sorry about the crazy dog lady, but she may have issues beyond the obvious.

dad911 04-09-2020 04:51 AM

Our idiot governor just declared most construction as non-essential, shutting it down. At least those are the headlines. The actual order exempts single family, with limited people at the site.

I've printed a copy to show the police when they show up. I suspect I'll be called in a few times.

fastfredracing 04-09-2020 04:58 AM

People were calling in on the local radio station yesterday having meltdowns about businesses that they thought should not be essential .
One lady was freaking out about the local auto repair shop behind her house still operating .
I am thankful that I am still considered essential . Business has been pretty good the last 2 weeks considering

red-beard 04-09-2020 05:33 AM

We had to print out our order to show we are exempt. While we never had to show it, my parents health care worker was accosted by an "Omar".

ahem...."the dog's crazy lady" :D

Jeff...you gotta move buddy ;)

jhynesrockmtn 04-09-2020 06:08 AM

The essential vs. non is nuts. My buddy runs a small construction/remodel outfit. In WA construction is non essential but the GNC store is open, pot stores open. I think car repair places have been able to stay open so that's good. I know they are closed in the Bay area as I had a 356 PPI that had to be cancelled in San Jose. I have a few small projects at my small apt. building he's sneaking one of his guys to do to keep some $'s going to his crew. I won't be surprised if one of my tenants calls me.

I dropped my car off at a shop about 1.5 hours ago. One of the front tires had a split between the edge of the wheel and the rim protection lip (but still holding air). The missus thinks she hit a curb. I think I've driven the car <10 miles in the last 4 weeks, and it's been the slowest that I've ever driven the car. It had been so long that I had to use the key because after a week, the remote entry goes to sleep or something like that. It'll feel good to have that tire replaced, so in case we have an emergency or need to go someplace, we can.

Lots of idiots out there. I'm glad for every business that can stay open.

Our apt complex has been setting up food trucks to come 3-6 days per week for the past couple of weeks. I'm sure those folks are happy just to be working. I've been tipping extra when we buy from them. I had to get an Uber back from dropping the car off this morning.

masraum 04-09-2020 07:49 AM

It's a real shame that OJU doesn't check in from time to time!

Zeke 04-09-2020 07:58 AM

Then call me the crazy lady. It's so quiet around here I don't want to fire up a power tool or even use a hammer. But the assbite student pilots are still circling doing touch and goes on a 7 minute cycle. Get a couple or 3 up there and it's about 20 an hour or one every 3 minutes. 78 dB at the nearest azimuth. That and some errant gardeners that are dumber than weeds, is the only noise in the city besides LOTS of sirens.

Gavin Nuisance has declared flight schools essential. Now he too is rude.

Add in straight pipe Harley riders and you have a trifecta of rudeness.

sammyg2 04-09-2020 09:15 AM

OK, you're the crazy lady ;)

Agree with you on the harley riders with loud pipes

I live on what i guess you would consider a corner lot. The road does a 90 degree bend around our property. For privacy we have pine trees planted all along our property line. I get home the other day and the neighbor opposite the bend across from us comes over and tells me she called the town to come and cut down the trees on our property because cars won't be able to see her kids playing in the street as they come to the bend. The town told her they can't cut them down so she wants me to cut them down. We all have a couple of acres of property. I asked her why her kids can't play in her yard and told her I'm not cutting anything down. She was not happy.

gordner 04-09-2020 10:08 AM

My dad always jokingly told us to go play in traffic, never met someone stupid enough to mean it.
Tell her you need her trees down to drive across her lawn when the kids are in the street.

To make matters even more insane, she has her house on the market. Her husband is being transferred to Boston.
