In part, “US National Institutes of Health dentist Tim Iafolla said when purely looking at the science "it would be appropriate to drop the floss guidelines".

Oddly enough, almost every bit of study whose findings support flossing was done by, guess who, floss manufacturers...

I use floss to get the food particles unstuck from my teeth.

When I go to my dentist for a cleaning, he goes from tooth to tooth with a pick to scrape the tarter, then the buffing wheel, and the final step is floss.

I had Class 3 Malocclusion correction surgery in my early 20's. Then in 2012 I had a fall and busted my grill. Had to get braces to fix that, then had a few crowns to finish it all.

Let's recap... ( see what I did there? )
Braces in my waaay too early teens.
Wore similar devices for the surgery, then braces again to fix the fall.

So, I've worn braces 3x in my life.

And while married, my ex became a Dental Hygienist.

We can argue over which method is better till the cows come home.
Bottom line, just do both a twice daily...minimum.

Sure, there's a difference, but if someone is told to switch their preferred method, they may stop altogether.

During my procedure to install 6 crowns due to the fall, my long time Dentist couldn't stop telling me how awesome my gums are.

Use the picks, floss your chicklets, and brush often. You might find your spouse likes kissing you a lot more.

The less flossin’ the better for business, though I am curious who these scientists are.

Done properly flossing is an integral part of proper oral hygiene.

A while back i took mom to see her dentist. In the waiting room there was a small book that explained why toothpaste was bad and people should brush without it.
I dismissed it as a tin foil hat thing, but it made enough of an impression that I still remember it.

Any comments?

Things are really getting lame around here.....how about we start a discussion on which type of oil to use instead.

I brush, then floss, then rinse before I go to bed at night. I floss after brushing and before rinsing figuring some of the fluoride will get down in the gums. I am not a dentist.

Here's my routine .

1. Start with a few blasts of brake cleaner .
2. Floss with strips of 100 grit sandpaper .
3. Rinse massive bleeding with brake cleaner .
4. Brush with wire brush and toothpaste .
5. Rinse massive bleeding with brake cleaner .
6. Pop a tic tac for a minty fresh breath .

Man we have hit the bottom of the barrel 😁

Yeah, it'd be lots better if we start a new thread:
how do you floss and brush with a stupid mask on your face?

Whoa, whoa, whoa...tap the brakes, Turbo.

Haven't you heard? They's a whole new way to do that. Pop a Febreze clip-on freshener to your columella.

You'll thank me.

I waterpik while I brush. I figure the synergy helps get out more plaque.

I do just the opposite, irrigate to get the large stuff, brush, then floss. Although thinking about it, I should irrigate, floss to get the stubborn stuff, and then brush.

with all this Coronavirus stuff and working from home, I still brush my teeth twice a day, but find myself doing the first brushing after 4PM before I go walking or running. I refuse to leave the house without doing so, it's just that I do it much later now.
