they will never think twice about it

The only thing that I see from that video, that could have saved some lives, was the time it took to get the door opened. Which is understandable under the conditions.
The passengers in the back were doomed as soon as the fire broke out.

At about the 50 second mark of the video...a man climbs back up the escape slide to help. After a few seconds only two people are able to escape. That was it...terrible.

Even though it won’t make much difference to the total idiots, don’t understand why the pre-flight spiel isn’t required to include a sentence, In the event the plane must be evacuated, any person removing carry on luggage will be subject to Federal prosecution.

Not the same situation but...

Some time ago I watched an episode of "Air Crash Investigations" and a young lady described how she had to step on a mans back to get out of a burning aircraft. He was stuck/trapped at the base of the doorway and she had no option but to step on his back to get out. He died as the plane was engulfed in flames.

She expressed a lot of regret and said that she thought about him everyday.

That sounds reasonable but a lot of the airline companies always seem to be struggling financially so they never do anything that may offend their passengers.

The back half or that plane was toast before it even stopped sliding. Can only imagine the nightmare when that happened.

It's human nature to grab your shiet. I won't pass judgement on anybody in this situation.

Doubt it mattered. You were farking on fire or you were lucky.

I might be wrong but don’t they usually spray foam on aircraft fires?

That’s my take on it too. It seemed to take forever for the doors to open and the chutes to deploy. I don’t see the problem with carrying out something you had in the seat with you. Stopping to get something out of the overhead - criminal.

It was 8 seconds. 10 seconds total until the first slider went down.

From the stop of plane. (There were flames in front of the door until the plane stopped.)

Anyone on the flight crew who would open those doors was buckled in to a seat. They had to wait until they were absolutely sure the aircraft had come to a complete stop before unbuckling and getting out of their seats. Nothing could have been worse than the flight crew unbuckling prematurely and getting tossed around the cabin, rendering them unable to open those doors and deploy the slides in a timely manner. I think they did very, very well in getting them open and deployed as quickly as they did.
