Slot car guys, Carrera 1:43 worth buying?

Many years ago, I picked up a Carrera 1:43 set on a whim. I dug it out so my daughter and I could have some fun. I was thinking of picking up another set so we could branch out and make our own custom course.

The questions:

Is 1:43 an established scale? Are there other brands making 1:43? Are they interoperable with the Carrera gear?

I know we are not talking huge money here, but why spend $ to expand if the product is an oddball scale that has no support.

Any input appreciated.

I think you have to run the 1:32 scale to get access to other manufacturers. The track may not be interchangeable foe the 1:32 scale, but at least the cars are.

1/24th is the best slot size I know of that has lots of continued support for parts, cars, track & sets, I went with Scalextrix stuff cause they have everything you could want.

I'm not sure if there are other brands, but Carrera Go (1/43) is very popular worldwide AFAIK and isn't going away anytime soon.

And with the smaller size (but it's larger than H.O.) you can fit a lot more track in a smaller area, and can make a more interesting layout than if you had 1/32 or 1/24 and limited space.

Also, Carrera sells all manner of extra track, etc. so you should go for it. I've found extra track packs at Hobby Lobby and at least one other local hobby shop.

You can find it online, too... ebay, Amazon, Electric Dreams.

Electric Dreams even sells parts

The kids and I have really been enjoying the 1:32 cars on a 1:24 track but it does take quite a bit of space.

I used www.carreraslots.com with great customer support. They have 1:43 cars and track in stock, but it looks like they are sold out of their complete sets.

Hmmm, I wonder how the 1:43 cars run on the 1:24 track?
