Favorite Westerns

Have always enjoyed good western movies.
My favorite has to be 'Open Range'
The shoot-out near the end is the best of any..imo (turn the volume up)
Robert Duvall and Costner made a great tandem.

Ride the High Country, Wild Bunch, The Searchers, too many to list

I think No Name on the Bullet is about the best Audie Murphy western. If you liked Open Range, check out Silverado.

Too many to list.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
Once Upon a Time in The West
True Grit (the new one, with Jeff Bridges, not the campy John Wayne - Glen Campbell version)
Lonesome Dove
Dead Man
Rango

There's a film on Netflix called 'Hell or High Water" that is a classic Western in every metric except for the time period - I just gave it a repeat watch the other evening. Man, what a great film

It is the bubble gum and popcorn version of a western, how many different sub texts were there. Definitely cared more about the characters in Open Range. Silverado had no Robert Duvall.

Once Upon a Time in the West is tough to beat. Why do the Italians do Westerns so well?

Viva Villa! with Wallace Beery is a favorite.
There is nothing on the list so far that I wouldn't sit through. Open Range and Lonesome Dove get 5 Stetsons from the WD film critique institute. I need to look into "Hell or High Water." My mom used to say that. I need to know what she was talking about.
I like all the Spaghetti Westerns. I'm a cheap date.

Yep. We need a thread on that.

In no particular order:

Life of Brian
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Young Frankenstein
Blazing Saddles

For a newer 'western' movie...'Dead Man' starring Johnny Depp is a very good one.
The sound track by Neil Young is mesmerizing. Some don't like Depp, but he is good in this one.

I really liked Silverado. I like Lawrence Kasdan's work.

Also liked Unforgiven, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Tombstone, True Grit, The Shootist, Little Big Man, The Magnificent Seven, as well as Clint's spaghetti westerns.

My favorite western..........

That would be "McLintock" starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. A fun flic with lots of twists and turns. There are lots of others that I like and watch occasionally that come in a close second and third place.

Probably the only exciting thing that happened there since the Union calvary went thru in 1864!

Everything else is cliche.
