I predict we will never return to normal, because face masks will become a permanent fashion item.

Vaccine is no sure thing.

This is over when everyone gets it.

I think this virus and the fact that the new CC's are tap-to-pay, plus things like Apple Pay, ends paper and coin currency for the most part. It's like writing a check at the supermarket — no one wants to wait for that and pretty soon it will be just as cumbersome to use cash, except for quick purchases like the donut shop and liquor store.

I think nowadays the lion's share of purchases at a Starbucks is by card. It was annoyingly slow at first with the embedded chips but now it's gonna be instant and walk. NO need for food handlers and others to handle dirty money. In fact, you do a disservice by leaving a cash tip for handing to anyone including the barber.

With tap-to-pay no one touches anything others have touched. Just hope the barista doesn't scratch her ass and then handle your cup.

The donut shop I USED to go to has the guy behind the counter serving or packing donuts with tongs, but he handles cash all day long as well as your donut bag or box. At a new customer about every 3 minutes that's a fast moving source of the spread of the virus.

Yet, I see "cash only" signs and "$5 min purchase." That siht don't fly. And I don't stop by anymore.

IDT history will bear that out. It certainly did not with Ebola and every other virus commonly known.

I believe it'll turn into a "seasonal flu" killing folks as part of the normal flu season forever.

Be afraid, very afraid.

Well the question is still outstanding if the reports about re-contacting it after you've had it (can someone please verify this in a medical journal), because if that is the case there is no herd immunity...

Normal. This world has been bass ackwards for thousands of years.
This latest wave of fear will embolden politicians to take away more civil liberties "for your own good". Just think how much the politicians would LOVE to have a cashless society so they can monitor and control everything you do. 1984 is coming. Revelations is coming.

Meanwhile...

A FRESH coronvirus outbreak in China's Henan province has raised fears of a devastating second COVID-19 wave - despite the ruling Chinese Communist Party's attempts to claim the country is winning the battle against the disease.

The curve will flatten at the end of summer, the light at the end of the tunnel will start to shine by January.

I saw that. Throw me out of here, I don't give a fvk. But what an ass. Really, the thoughts there are sub human..

It gets to the point that I'm ashamed to open Pelican. I got a PM 2 days ago from one of the original members here and he was mentioning another ass that had been on my case recently. I'm quoting my reply,
"He is the new curmudgeon. I've been replaced.
I have no respect for anything Pelican. I come here like people reading Dear Abby and then wonder why. I guess we all want to know how the idiots of the world live. Well, OT is a great profile. My dog licked his wiener, should I reinstall Windows?"

Don't leave. If I've pissed you off (and I've pissed off pretty much everyone here at one time or another) I apologize. I value your contributions.

^^^^ what Patrick said. Methinks a lot of oldtimers are a bit "torn & frayed" these daze...just take a hiatus Milt if you must. It hasn't helped that PARF has pretty much spilled over due to the "topic of the day" either. I'm guilty too...

Seriously Patrick? Nobody here said that the old and infirm are inconveniently expensive.

I may have implied that you are a narcissistic control freak who wants others to jump thru hoops for your perception of safety, but that's just because you're so g'damn whiny. Like the hot-head handyman there.

 so full of false assertions you are.

Not sure why you think I have a boat payment. I have monthly bills, but no payments for any debt. Hey, here's an idea... focus your hate and maybe hope that my cable bill check bounces and my interwebs get shut. --You know, so that maybe you can get your goat back.

Wasn't you.

I love it when you, Island, try and turn the tables. All you do is mess up the floor. Your contributions are no longer wanted or needed.
I used to come here for the news that didn't reach me otherwise. I guess I'm gonna have to work a little harder to get the tidbits that used to be fun here.

I guess you know what AMF means. Adios Mutha Fvkca.

(for those of you that like what we used to do here, that was a saying in the 60's amongst the street racers that raced American Muscle. Quite a bit of the time you could see "AMF" written on the cover plate of the rear axle differential when the car was jacked enough to see under. I love it.)

Island, here's for sure I'm gone. Suck my dick.

I get it. I did call you out for being a contemptuous moderator. Always with a chip on your shoulder.

So yeah, I can see why you want to hate on me. But really, it's your massive contempt for others that you dislike.
