who makes a quality (USA made) kitchen faucet?

Lost shopping by the gazillion variety of kitchen sink faucets. Our old one laughably now has a PIN HOLE (invisible to the eye) THROUGH THE METAL CASTING just above the spray nozzle. POS that shoots a stream at ones shirt!

I believe its a Delta brand. Garbage metallurgy, cheap porous casting, probably Taiwan made. Could care less about a warranty with this company and don't want another from them. Wife wants the following features - goose neck, single lever, pullout sprayer, multi spray head (spray, stream and pause).

Looked at Pfister, American Standard, Moen, Kohler. Only American Standard noted on the carton as being made in Mexico. Moen mentions parts are China, Taiwan, Mexico and 'some assembly done in USA'. The others don't mention on the cartons where manufactured. What are they hiding? Some of the rubberized levers on Kohler are junk as they were falling off on the display shelves. Others had a stainless looking spray head but actually just a plated plastic.

Whats good these days?

How much do you want to pay? Cal faucet, Newport Brass, Symmon, Chicago Faucet, then there's American Standard (do not buy from a home center) from a plumbing wholesaler.

Good point on where buying. We were like magnetic zombie's drawn into the Dead Zone big box retailers.... Menards, H.D. and Lowes. We must have been the only zombies shopping and the others were invisible ghost. Nobody is in these places - Chicago area! I do support our independent local lumberyards but for plumbing fixtures there, prices are double, same SKU's.

Willing to pay more as long as its WORTH it. Difficult to fully examine the difference between a $125 special American Std. vs. $385 Kohler. You're spot on going to the expert wholesaler. I would think those fellows would know whats good.

I am still not entire sure if all the parts are made in the good old USA? I know the valves in the Cal Faucet and Newport Brass are Italian. IMO, they are worth the money just based on their chroming and finish. If you take the two side by side, you can see the difference, minor, but still you can tell the differences. That's pretty much what you are paying for. Oh, for some reason, their design is better, I just don't know why people like Moen or American Standard have these funky design faucets. They can't seem to just have something simple, but they have add crap to it

I wouldn't buy Kohler. for a few more bucks, there are much better products out there.

First I've heard of Cal Faucet and Newport Brass. I like what I'm reading about Cal but they come up short on kitchen offerings. They seem all about bath fixtures.

Newport Brass is out of the budget.

Any opinion about Giagni? Sounds Italian but interesting origins.
Giagni has been in the manufacturing industry for over 50 years and has continued to remain a family owned and operated business committed to making quality products. We started out supplying electronic and mechanical hardware to the aerospace industry and US military. We continued to build on that knowledge and expanded into the decorative hardware business in 1988 and into the decorative plumbing industry in 1999.

Delta is guaranteed for life, if you can figure out the model they will replace it, the kit or the part.
I just had the sprayer hose go, they sent me the whole assembly hose and sprayer. Plus the tap was dripping so for that they sent the kit. UPS delivered it 2 days later. 5-10 minutes and it was all in.

Here's a good review and info page on faucets

I really like the Moen brushed brass, gooseneck faucet we have in the kitchen now. Big tall pots or gallon jugs under the faucet aren't a problem anymore, and it seems to have much better quality than the previous two Deltas we had (like said above, the Delta has junk metallurgy) one of which was a free replacement for the first one.

^^Mark- That's a terrific link. Thanks. (quite a scam on the buyers - discloser where manufactured.)

BTW: Delta, I don't doubt they would cover our failed faucet but we want a change of type anyways. Even so, I can't believe a casting like this becomes porous. I don't care what company made it, something like this should never happen. This is a garbage product with their name on it.

We went with Moen for our house. Had the plumbing company supply them from a plumbing supply place. Have only been using them for 5 or 6 years, but absolutely no difficulties so far.

I'll take Hans Grohe (best bang for the buck on the higher end products like Newport Brass) before I look at Grohe. Sister company.

Why only American made fauctes only and not German?

Cal Faucet, just did a three bath remodel with designer supplied fixtures. They do not return to their correct indexing, feel loose, and the plumber was ready to toss them out the window. I have had bad valves from Newport, internal leaking. Hans Grohe is s good.

^thanks and listening in. I see Hans Grohe is also Hansgrohe

(The American made thing is just me... reminiscing, grumbling grouch, don't like that companies hide or not tell one where there damn product is made. All that fancy, picturesque, high gloss cardboard carton, and no 'Made in ????'. I'd like to give my little support to the American factory worker, when possible, even willing to pay more if all equal with a quality competitor and product.)

Rejuvenation is a company originally out of Portland, OR. Their (original) schtick was all locally made light fixtures. I've only purchased their light fixtures and cabinet hardware and been very happy with their quality. They introduced plumbing fixtures, too, but no FHE.

However, recently they have been bought out by Williams Sonoma and I've noticed that small items like table and floor lamps are sometimes made in China--but still most of their hardware remains American made.

Italian made stuff is quite good too.

My last renovation job I went for American Standard. I had the kitchen, bathroom, showers with all the same model of fitting. Also it seemed best bang for the buck. It's been OK so far. The sales guy warned me they make they own mixer cartridges and everyone else buys European made ones, or if they are being cheap, Asian made ones.

The tap is really just a housing for the cartridge. It's the cartridge that does everything.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Your plumber must have over tighten them a little bit too much. The trick is to hand tighten, crank it down a little more, that's it. No more. it would leak. I know lots of guys over tighten them thinking the tighter it goes, the better it seals. Not true. Read the instructions. There's brass sleeve that slips over the valve shaft. this sleeve is for holding down the trim ring. This brass sleeve determines how eight the knob should feel. The tighter you crank it down by hand, the tighter the on/off knob feels. I have had one valve go bad on me, the thread was bad, so the new one was in the mail in a couple days. Newport's design and finish is a bit better IMO. I went with Hansgrohe's Axor line in my own home, that should tell you something. When I grow up, I will have KWC(Swiss, oh yeah, you pay for it)through out my house.

I do lots of business with Kohler so I bought one theirs and have been very happy with it. It was $300 or so and has everything you mention. It does not have a rubberized handle. Faucets can get stupid expensive fast....

I've got Moen in my Kitchen and Price Pfister for bath fixtures. I have very hard water and my only complaint would be my chrome fixtures water spot easily. Nothing a quick wash with BKF won't fix. Other than that I had mineral deposit build up on my Moen Kitchen faucet, called the manufacturer and they sent me a new one, no questions asked beyond "what model is it". The Price Pfister bath fixtures are about 12 years old and have never dripped so I'm happy with them also.

The problem is, I have no idea where they were made.
