Just found this...

I was going through drawers in the garage looking for something else and found this. Anyone else remember what it's for? Hint: VW related. I'm sure someone remembers.

Yep^^. Key for engine lid cover for type II up through 1965. Also used for gas door up through 1966.

Attaboy for everyone! Not even sure why I have it. I think I only had one bus (panel van) and I flipped it before I even drove it.

How much you want for it?

I had a 1960 Bug, and the gas filler was in the trunk, like a 914. My 73 bug had no gas door lock at all that I remember. It has been 46 yeas since I sold it.

I do remember using those on the Type 2.

So, do you want to sell it? All I have is a repro one, and it sucks
