my stubborn elderly neighbor. her garbage.
 

she is maybe 92. she asked if i could take out her garbage cans weekly and bring them back. no problemo. i do it in the hopes some young whippersnapper will do it for me when i am 92.

anyways, a few months ago, the garbage man was writing the old lady a ticket, just as i pulled up. i asked what was up? he knows, i am the guy that pulls out her cans, he has seem me do the early morning pajama scramble (when i forgot her cans). he said she is putting inappropriate stuff into her cans. this instance, she took the oily cardboard under her leaky ass SAAB and dumped it into her recycle bin. i defended her and stated she didnt even have a Gray Can for garbage. he stuck the ticket on the green bin and called for a Gray can to be delivered.

the old lady still wont use the Gray can!!! i wear gloves because i have to pull crap out of the recycle bin, and put it in the gray can. cat litter bags, stuff like that. i stopped doing it now. i just roll it out as i promised. but as you all know, i am mildly OCD. it does make me slightly nutty.

i talked to her about it, but she never changes.

You are a good neighbor. Can't fix everything.

You are doing the right thing and should leave it at that. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, just like I can’t teach my 88 YO mom to use a mobile phone. She might have to get cited, or fined or refused pickup and it still might not sink in, but you are being a good person for helping her out and that is more than good enough. And there’s nothing wrong with a bit of OCD.

My wife's aunt is 90. She resisted getting a cell phone. Her son finally got her one that is a flip phone and has large numbers, and he has it on his plan so she does not have to pay for it. She will turn it on, make a call, and then turn it off. He tries to explain it does not cost any money just sitting there and on. She will not leave it on, and leaves it at home when goes out to the store or wherever.

If I pulled out the old lady's cans I get smacked upside the head with a toobafour.

I may just buy the house next door....just so Vash can move in :D.

He can even shoot pellets from his back deck...or mine ;)!

We are an odd couple. I took her to Home Depot to buy blinds and the salesperson had to ask. Haha.
