Is that the 9 acre pond....a former quarry? How deep....that would be a cool fishin' hole for sure!

Yep. It's only about 35 feet deep though. Great fishing. The only problem we've had is not keeping up with the bass population. Easy to catch an 8-10" bass. Much harder to find those big ones we used to catch. I used to do the "fish relocation program" where I'd catch a basket full and bring them to the back quarry (a 1 acre quarry). I just haven't done much fishing over the last several years. The bluegill and crappie fishing is phenomenal. The bass are good eating but I like catching the big ones.

Not one fish pic. Really?

Nope. I don't take pics. My dad bought the quarry around 30 years ago. I used to fish there all the time with a good friend. We'd catch some great large mouth back then. Seems they've gotten over populated at some point. My brother and I used to go out and catch 40 or 50 bluegill in an hour then have a fresh fish fry. We don't do that much anymore.

If ya want fish pics.. Jump in the car and head west on 30. I'll hook ya up.

I didn't think there were any whopper in my largest pond for a long time....chock full of 1-2 lb'ers until I manually cleared some of the grass out several years back....caught a few whoppers in the 10 range...could easily put a large grapefruit in their mouths...caught 5 as I recall over time....might have been re-caughts and I could easily see them too. Spring fed sloping pond...mebbe 10' deep at the dam. Caught a 5-6 lber in one of my smaller ponds two years ago....

My Lab won't let me fish near as much now....play time wif the watermutt :D.

Be careful, I'm pretty much retired.

Would love to see that lift, tho. :)

We used to catch 4 and 5#ers up in the shallows on a rattle craw. I haven't caught much over 14 inches in years... except for crappie.

Off to my N WI place Monday to chase just these fish - knobhead Gills and slab Crappies. Water temp is about 55 and warm weather all week. Temp should be into the mid 60"s and that usually triggers a feeding frenzy. In 2018 my pal and I pulled 102 Crappies in 1.5 hours and only quit because we ran out of minnows and that is all they would eat.
My biggest Gill about 11", had a couple 9.5"ers last week. Buddy has a 17.5" Crappie on his wall out of a 60acre lake near me.
Will chase some Bass as well, especially since Washburn County has no size limit on Bass again this year in an effort to thin them a bit.

I can't even fathom bluegill or other panfish that bigly...nor can bass ;).

Best of luck! I'm building an ark...

When I was 5 years old, my grandpa took me to Big 5 Sporting Goods, and told me to pick out any fishing pole and any reel. I picked out a Berkeley cherry wood pole because it was red, and a Diawa open face reel. He picked out an "Old Pal" metal tackle box and filled it with hooks, bait, lures, pliers, knife, bobbers, weights, the whole works. He then drove me to Sequoia lake where my cousins were already camping and fishing, and let me camp out with them.

I caught my first fish ever! It was a bluegill. To me, it might as well have been a whale. My cousin Kevin fillet it and my grandma cooked it for me. I thought it was a special feast!

I still have the rod, reel, and all of the tackle. I remember that trip so well even now.

Have a pictue of me 3 years old holding a normal crappie I caught with a 1/2 by 1/2 piece of wood with a line tied on the end about as long as I could hold the bait off the ground. It also has my grandpa beside me holding up a 4 lb crappie. Both of us has big smiles.

Granddad had a baited boathouse on Grand Lake of the Cherokees.

Remember! It's from your elbow to the tip of your index finger! Don't use your pecker to measure or you won't even be able to fit to ants on the the ark. :D

vash 05-21-2020 09:44 AM

everyone knows you measure a fish just like how you measure your own penis. (it would be weird to measure someone elses penis)

you measure from the anus, to juuuuust beyond the tip..:)

best Adam Corolla joke ever.
