Monty Montgomery - Amazing rendition of Sara Smile. Vocals are good. The guitar playing is amazing. Check it out...

So many great guitarists, so little time. Some have incredible technical mastery of their instrument and some take you on a grand sonic adventure that deeply touches you. Often they are not the same guitarist.

Jon Gomm, just wow!

I've seen him play this live a few times and it's a sight to behold. He plays it like a total boss.

Yes. Me too. I've seen these guys live about a dozen times, one of my all-time favorites. I remember my first impression of them live, when I was about 12-13 years old - "wow, they sound just like they do on the LP". Not a very sophisticated assessment but, hey, like I said, I must have been around 12-13. I had seen plenty of bands by then (and since then) who simply cannot play live what they record in the studio. IMHO, Yes were one of the most talented bands I've ever seen. And, Yes, if I were to be so audacious as to pronounce anyone as a "best guitarist of all time", Steve Howe would make my final two or three. He does have a somewhat unfair advantage, though - look at those spidey fingers...

All anecdotal and of course the usual suspects are offered...

Tie a few strings tow a branch or 2X4

This guy can make some music..

John Mayer has totally earned my respect . I had no idea he was this good. All I knew about him before his stint with dead and co , was the poppy stuff that got radio play. Just wow !
Perhaps because he got some seasoned vets to mentor him....

She so does nothing for me. No feel, groove or tone at all, just chops and going through the motions.

Here's one with a little more personality.

And the one that pretty much caused me to get worse grades in high school than I should have gotten. I spent so many hours learning every note of this, back when it was all VHS. Saw this tour a few days before this was filmed.

You know the craziest thing? I just looked up Rolling Stones magazine's 2015 list of the 100 best guitarists of all time. Guess who's not even on the list. It's laughable. And sad. Never mind The Clap; Did none of the judges ever hear Awaken? It boggles the mind. (He made #69 on a list in 2020. Still not nearly good enough, IMO.)

When Mayer 1st stepped from his acoustic pop tunes to the Blues I felt like it was "paint by numbers". He was hitting all of the cool riffs but he didn't own it. In a few years of playing with the greats he really really gets it now. He is one of my favorite current guitarists with an incredible ear, an amazing songwriter, and commitment to the music.

True. I've seen Dead and Co live a few times and have been watching their weekly live stream every Saturday night on nugstv for a couple months now. I blasphemed by saying he's better than Jerry on some songs.

^^^^ Blasphemy :D!

I haven't exactly been "in tune" lately....but...

There are many....yet there are only a few ;).
