Polymeric Sand

2 areas with pavers of 2 different types

6x9 mounded block pavers are new

interlocking octagon looking pavers are old, but pressure washing took out the top layer of sand

can I put Polymeric Sand in there and not have weeds grow? or not many weeds?

I don't really care about locking the pavers in as the pavers are in pretty solid so will stay put unless we have an earthquake...

is it this easy?

I used it on our "retreat" which I paved with antique bricks. It was the first time I'd used it, and it went down easily and lasted. One thing I think you need to pay attention (not having done it before) is a tendency for over watering.

That is the way we did ours a year ago, no weeds joints still full. Make sure that the blocks are DRY all the way down to the bottom or the “sand” will not fill.

Polymeric Sand lasted about a year or two at most.

I used it for very wide paver joints (1-4") with very little underlayment.
I have been paying the price of not doing it right the first time.

YMMV.

For the first year no weeds but the stuff breaks down and holds water like a sponge. Then it comes out in nice patterns conforming to your hardscape. I put down 3 5 gal buckets of the stuff and know how well weeds grow in it. The only no weed solution is concrete

For weeds in the walkway I'm using a propane torch extension similar to this.
Works better and cleaner than roundup.
It needs to be re-done every 1-4 weeks but fast and easy.
(plus my back loves to hear them scream)

My dad has one. Hell, I would grow weeds just for the opportunity to use it. So fun.
