Garage done

My detached garage got completed just before Covid-19 shut down construction in Washington. I'm only part way moved in, still trimming it out and sorting through 40 years worth of tools and parts and trying to figure out where stuff is gonna live, but it's coming together.

The cars fit.

Oak cabinets have fallen out of favor in modern design, which means a bunch of them are available cheap on Craigslist. These were 9 feet long, and cost $100. Found another set similar for $50.

Back room is for equipment and storage. Air compressor waiting to be plumbed in.

We broke ground in November, and the building was final inspected April 30.

It was, as they say, a long, strange trip.

It is epoxy with polyaspartic clear on top. I had no idea what polyaspartic was when the guy recommended it, but it appears to be pretty much indestructible.

The BMW is on a mid-rise lift. I had originally planned a two post lift, but am not sure I will need it until/unless I get another big resto started.

Yes--I'm in the process of installing an RS carpet kit in the 911, so the interior is out. Here's what they look like installed.

Looks great! I thought that initially you were going to install a 2 post. That get put on the side burner?

Not sure I need it. I can do 90% of the stuff I do with the low rise scissor, and I don't like how much real estate permanent lifts take. Plus I keep changing my mind on where everythng should go. This is about the fourth different arrangement.

Nice and I’m jealous!

flatbutt 06-04-2020 04:35 PM

Damn. That's nice!

john70t 06-04-2020 05:42 PM

Very nice space. Congrats. Wow. And that floor is flawless.
It all began with an empty dirt hole..

fastfredracing 06-04-2020 05:49 PM

That is a really nice setup ! Color me J E Ellis . Im sitting here right now , trying to put together my application for my building permit .
My shop garage is a big old dirty beat up building . I cannot wait to have a home shop that stays clean. It still will not be as nice as that though .

billybek 06-04-2020 06:23 PM

Very nice.
Funny how some of the names here that you don't realize are missing until you see them again.
Welcome back.

dewolf 06-05-2020 12:14 AM

Tell me about it! I just ate up pretty much the entire bay where I park my 911 with a two post. I've already used it several times for different things like rotating tires, brakes and even a wheel bearing on my truck but it does eat up a lot of real estate. I went from being able to park two vehicles side by side in the bay to only one vehicle due to the lift. Luckily I have a lot of shop area so I could afford to lose floor space.

I can't wait for that either! Who does a guy have to pay to achieve that? I ask because my shop is always a mess!
