Everyone goes through different phases of thought when it comes to vehicle ownership.

For example this morning I had a brief thought to get rid of everything except my work truck and my motorcycles.

Motorcycles have their limitations but they sure are a boat load of fun to ride!

"Only 320" hp. ;)

I have an 85 911 with just 200 factory HP that I have owned to 25 years. Love it.

My SC only had 180hp. Loved that car.

Not sure you'll get $30k - you are at 997 price range there.

I wouldn't risk a catastrophic selling price over the possible higher selling price to be gained by a no reserve auction. But I'm not Wayne Carini playing with other people's money, either.

Not sure I'll get $30 either but doesn't hurt to ask and starting at $25k seems sort of silly.

Following BaT for a while. There are a lot of folks out there that don't blink at 30k. As mentioned, it's about waiting for the right buyer. I personally wouldn't do since I want full disclosure which I think unless someone drives, they are not getting. I do enjoy the auctions though. I am amazed at what some stuff goes for. Right car for the right buyer. Maybe some rich Jersey dude needs a red C4S. Heck, I am wicked middle class and I needed one.

bring a trailer will get you as close to $30K as you can possibly get. Maybe more, car is beautiful. Will help with pics.

As many have written, you did not make a mistake. Life happens, right?

I went through this a few years ago. Helped out a friend of mines Dad, went in with eyes wide open because I had a vision of what I thought I wanted.

I actually really enjoyed the process. They are both the finest kind of people.

After a year or so of staring at it, however, I realized I had made a, "mistake": I didn't have as much as a vision forward with the project as I had blinders on to what I used to enjoy doing but wasn't interested in today.

The hard part is moving off yesterday. Change is ok.

I lost about 5k in the next deal selling it, which stung, but I really wanted the car, an'82 SC Targa, to get back on the road where it belongs.

I even put it on a trailer and delivered it.

Got to get you out of my life...

Funny how that happens. I know how you feel.
If you enjoyed the car when you bought it then you didn’t make a mistake. Keeping it around if you aren’t enjoying it might be a mistake. You pay a psychological price by keeping It around. The longer questions you’re asking yourself (is something going to go wrong with it? Can I get a good price?) weigh on you the higher the price. Sell it and move on. Life is short.

unclebilly 06-05-2020 09:46 AM

Do a long road trip in it with your wife or kid(s). Then sell it.

Wish I had a dollar for every time I lost a few grand on a porsche.....

I'll list a few of my 'mistakes' to make you feel better:

1) Totalled a low (12k miles) 944 turbo on the track
2) Sold a 993 Cup Car before the rise
3) Sold a 964 Carrera Cup Car before the rise
4) Bought a GT3 at the peak, and sold at the low....
5) stripped a 'clean' 964 and welded in a cage..... now it's worth more stock.
6) I was one of the owners of the John Oates 1984 “Karma Carrera”

No Regrets.

If you don't enjoy it, sell it and move on......

I am an old geezer than has been driving Porsches since 1974. After 25 year of driving my 911 I love it more all the time. I plan to run up to Hallett Motor Race circuit in a few weeks to get rid of some of the pesky excess rubber on my tires. With Porsche Parade canceled for this year my annual road trip was killed off.

RWebb 06-05-2020 12:15 PM

sell it and put a Jaguar V-6 engine in the Miata

DWBOX2000 06-05-2020 01:23 PM

I wouldn’t change a thing on the Miata. Lower, bilsteins, roll bar, racing seat. Its perfect imo.

C'mon out to Palm Springs anyway. The roads are semi-empty. Gas is cheap. And Joshua Tree (is it open?) actually has fantastic sweeping roads.

Buying a guards red porsche IS ALWAYS A BIG MISTAKE!!!!!:D

I know- I'm a hair club client, and I've owned a couple myself!

I think this is important.

I have spent copious amounts of time speeding on public roads. Tsk-tsk me all you want but everyone here has. My 964 made me:cool:

Even my 912 made me want to push whatever envelope it could.

I got very lucky. Incredibly lucky. I never hit a thing in all the years I pressed it public roads. I can't imagine the risks in a more modern, capable, car.

Best.

RWebb 06-05-2020 02:28 PM

the trick is to drive a less modern, less capable, car - something lightwt. with narrow tires and some oversteer if you get into the gas, and some oversteer if you get off the gas...

Alan A 06-05-2020 03:15 PM

$30k for a 4S with 72k isn’t a crazy ask.

Here you go. My grandson and I have had more fun with this POS than I've had in any car in quite a while.

Exactly why Jeremy Clarkson loves the BRZ.
