Very cool!

Ok cool, a desktop waterjet.....how much is it?

dad911 06-05-2020 03:06 PM

Starts at $8k. Looks like it's realistically 10k. https://shop.wazer.com/products/110v-60hz-wazer-full-price?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7c7n4-Tr6QIVCeDICh3mqgHEEAQYAiABEgKX2_D_BwE

How soon before we see one at Harbour Freight?

How soon before we see one recalled from Harbour Freight?

pwd72s 06-05-2020 03:44 PM

Recalled? What could possibly go wrong? :p

Baz 06-05-2020 04:08 PM

That is very cool!

Wonder about making early Porsche reproduction parts with it?

A friend of mine has a glowforge, and it is pretty cool. I just wish it could cut metals.

This seems neat. However:
a) the 12x18" sheet size seems smallish
b) it's slooow
c) looks like it uses a whole lot of abrasive media.

No shop should be without one?

Nice, should be useful for low production items, perhaps audio and automotive.

That is cool

A couple million years ago, I remember 3D printers being all high tech and expensive

My daughter's friend bought one for fun. He is enlisted in the army- so not rolling in the bucks.

Water jet seems next.

.....

I built a plastic printer almost 10 years ago. I used aluminum extrusion and plate when they were still using threaded rods. Now most are using extrusion for stiffness. Upgrading mine now to use some of the newer filaments. Prices are way down, like computers it doesn't pay to roll your own anymore.

Cost per cut isn't cheap with the water jet. I guess to keep the price of hardware down, this one does not recycle the media.

I'm tempted to pick up one of the k40 lasers (around $400) and hack the software/controller.

hmmm... First desktop?

https://www.protomax.com/ - ($24k) Omax has been the innovator IMO. Although more so in the big mfg space.

And dad, on lasers, you need really good ventilation. After all, you are 'smoking' what ever you are cutting.
