Ultra Short Throw Projector
 

Anyone have an UST Ultra Short Throw projector? I just purchased one and I also bought an outdoor projector screen.

I was thinking that maybe I should also use this inside the house as well, otherwise these will be very expensive outdoor movies.

I'm looking for recommendations for indoor projector screens. Approximately 100-120 inch diagonal. The projector can project up to 150" but I don't have that kind of space inside the house.

which one did you buy? i have a blank wall in my backyard porch i want to shine movies on.

What's your budget and room conditions?

If you're in a room with a lot of ambient light, you'll want to look at a SI (Screen Innovations) screen. They have models that are designed to reject ambient light. They are quite spendy.

Elite Screens are a more budget minded screen. They do have some ambient light rejecting screens on the market now.

You also have Stewart, DaLite and countless others. When I built my dedicated home theater I got samples from a number of companies. In the end it came down to Elite and Carada. I went with the Carada since I liked theirs a bit better than the Elite. Sadly they are no longer around.

Years ago, I had a projector before flat screens were affordable.

Used a 1x2 frame, with a sheet of 'blackout fabric' stretched on it.

There was a paint mix recommended on AVS forums, but we were happy with it as-is.

There are indoor screens that are very inexpensive and of lovely quality. I think I have an "Elite Screens." It is 120" and I think it cost $250? Looks great. 10+ years old. Looks super high end.

I had a contractor see my theater room (that set me back $5000) and used the word "rich" to describe me...

I didn't hire him. But, that is the impression that a very modestly priced screen will give.

My room conditions are good for movies with some ambient light but none that shines into the room - big window but faces north and decent overhang of roof. Walls are dark.

I bought an 150" Elite Screen for outside and it comes with a frame that stretches the screen tight. For the inside, I've read that you must use a tightly stretched screen when using a short throw projector as they will magnify any bends or movement with the screen. I also need a much smaller screen for inside. Right now, I'm just considering my options as this projector has not even been delivered yet, I was only thinking that this projector could be duel use and not just for the outside (that's what I bought it for).

I bought a Vava. However, this type of projector needs a screen and will not do well shining on a wall. It sits at the base of the screen and projects up. Due to being so close to the screen, it will distort if the surface is not perfect. You could be better off getting a regular projector for a wall unless you add a screen in front of it.

We have an Elite and use it for movies when the lights are off and for a "virtual shooting range" using Shoot-Off and Laserlite inserts with a good amount of ambient light. Works well enough for both. Don't rmember which model and it is a manual up/down unit. 7.5' drop ceiling in the basement so it is easy to reach.
