I met Dave at the Great Western Gun Show in Pomona years ago. He was looking at antique Samurai sword hand guards. He was pretty surprised someone at a gun show recognized him.

I have never seen this version. Its pretty cool. I am started to really dig his music, even though most of his music is just a little bit before my time. At 3.0, what's the drummer beating on? A cardboard box or is there something else under there?

HEy Jeff - I know how much you like cool houses, have you ever seen the one Jackson's grandfather built near the Arroyo? I believe JB lived in it a few times as well.

His grandfather was a jack-of-all-trades, and was doing his own form of architectural salvage long before it was a thing. He was also a printer and I think ran his business from it.

His brother still lives in it:

And if you're getting into his music, I'd like to make two recommendations:

For Everyman is an excellent and timeless record. And the album cover was shot in the courtyard of the Abbey San Encino:

And a few years back, a bunch of great artists put together a JB tribute record, and it is truly outstanding!

Take a look at the lineup:

Disc One

"These Days" – Don Henley with Blind Pilot
"Everywhere I Go" – Bonnie Raitt and David Lindley
"Running on Empty" – Bob Schneider
"Fountain of Sorrow" – Indigo Girls
"Doctor My Eyes" – Paul Thorn
"For Everyman" – Jimmy LaFave
"The Barricades of Heaven" – Griffin House
"Our Lady of the Well" – Lyle Lovett
"Jamaica Say You Will" – Ben Harper
"Before the Deluge" – Eliza Gilkyson
"For a Dancer" – Venice
"Looking Into You" – Kevin Welch

Disc Two

"Rock Me On the Water" – Keb' Mo'
"The Pretender" – Lucinda Williams
"Rosie" (Browne, Donald Miller) – Lyle Lovett
"Something Fine" – Karla Bonoff
"Too Many Angels" – Marc Cohn
"Your Bright Baby Blues" – Sean and Sara Watkins
"Linda Paloma" – Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa
"Call it a Loan" – Shawn Colvin
"I'm Alive" – Bruce Hornsby
"Late For the Sky" – Joan Osborne
"My Opening Farewell" – J. D. Souther

And if you buy the physical (or even the digital version) there's a great pamphlet featuring the Abbey.

Hope you enjoy!

Dave, the Abbey is 3 miles from my house. I live in Mt Washington, the hills just north of the Abbey. I have to check the tribute out. You know what the sad thing is, I stopped listenning to music some time ago. For period of about 8-10 years, I completely stopped and only hear what's on KLOS when I drive. That gets tuned out in about 20 second after I start the car because its basically the same stuff played daily.

Yeah, I stopped listening to FM a while ago too.

I burned/ripped/borrowed/bought up to about 6500 tunes in mp3 format - they're on my phone. And my kids kept me up with good new music. And at their insistence I got a Spotify account, and between them sending me stuff they think I'll like, plus the uncanny algorithm that suggests (really accurately I might add) music I'll like, that keeps me happy these days.

I do still miss the Mighty Met, the "Mellow Sound" of KNX-FM, and the priate radio that was KLOS. Cie la vie...

The link I posted (KCSN 88.5) is Cal State Northridge's station. Pretty much commercial free, Tom Petty (back in the day), Bonnie Raitt and others put on benefit concerts to help support it.

Joe Walsh just started DJ'ng there for a few hours regularly. Newer music, no playlist just a good FM station.
