Diesel/Hydraulic system help....
Cleaned up my mini excavator, changed fluids (covid project)
Now I notice seepage from the hydraulic fluid tank cap, and it seems to have more pressure in the tank. All I did was change fluid and filters. Should pressure build up in the tank? What would cause it to increase?

Did you overfill it? Were the cylinders extended or retracted when you filled the reservoir? There also needs to be room for expansion as things heat up.

Are you sure you didn't just overfill? If you emptied the tank and then refilled without first having all the cylinders retracted, you had fluid in the cylinders that then went back into the reservoir as you moved them which would overfill the reservoir and cause it to come out the cap.

I may have over filled, I don't think so.
Should pressure build up in the tank?

Air trapped in the system ? Other than the cap leaking does everything work as before ?

As fluid flows from and back into the main tank, air needs to pulled in or vented. It's very likely the tank is now overfilled. There should be a sight tube, glass or something that indicates cold and hot optimum level

I don't recall what mini you have. I know you told me once in the past. Does it have a glass or a stick for determining the hydraulic oil level? The tank probably holds 7 gallons or so right? Pull a gallon out, fire it up, retract all the cylinders and check it again. Make sure if you have an angle blade that you retract that cylinder too. Some folks forget about that one.

Your good. I put in about 7 gallons. It's a Bobcat 334.
Has the sight glass, When I parked it and looked, the fluid was below the glass. But frankly I didn't retract every cylinder to park, I tend to drop the bucket flat. Will check thanks.

Pull a gallon, retract the cylinders and see if the fluid is in the glass. 1 gallon isn't going to hurt the system.
