Garmin Varia RTL510

Received my new Garmin radar tail-light yesterday.
gchappel recommended it in the 'Roadies' thread.
Took it out this morning for the first time and was very pleased with the results.:)
The red tail-light is incredibly bright...they claim it can be seen up to a mile.
The radar was picking up cars for the initial warning before I could even see them in my mirror.
Easy to install...I bought the bundle which includes the Garmin display. Shows distances by color and audible warning.

Glad you like it.
It took me several rides to trust it, but it really has not failed me yet.
It does have blind spots, can not see around corners, loses cars on rolling hills- but all in all it is terrific.
According to the guys behind me, the light flash pattern changes, and it gets brighter when it detects a car. This is supposed to make you more obvious, the drivers notice the change.
For me, what I like it especially when I am riding by myself, I do not have to stay glued to the mirror, I can relax a little.
At least on my system, using the Garmin 530, I wish the beep was louder.
Stay safe out there.
Gary

By the way, mine failed the first ride in the pouring down rain. See my thread on Dark Sky app, it let me down, and I got soaked.
Garmin support was great. 5min on a computer chat and they sent me a RMA. Took about a week and I had a new one.

IIUC you need to buy the bundle, not just the light and detector?

I did order the Garmin out-front mount for it today. I need it further ahead, or up, to see it without having to tilt my head down.
I heard the beep every time..but there was no wind this morning.

Certain Garmin's will work with it instead of buying the bundle. (not sure which models)
I have only a wireless cat-eye...which won't work with it.

Most modern garmin head units work with it, along with the wahoo bolt and roam.

Cool ad for it...I like the radar pinging! :)
The stand-alone display unit that they bundle with it...looks to show more info than the other Garmin head units. (Of course the stand-alone unit doesn't have any of the many features of the Garmin computers.)

Was biking a week ago on some roads that run through an Amish community.
Stopped along the road to talk to a friend who was jogging through their also.
It was a Sunday...as we were talking, my Varia lit-up and flashed a couple times.
I didn't expect any cars on that road...I looked behind and there was an Amish family of at least 6 walking towards us...about 50 yards back. The father was pushing a baby stroller..old one made of metal.
I should write Garmin and tell them their radar works to 'warn of baby strollers'!:)
