you crack me up Paul... what is it now, 10 ? years of Stang trolling on a Porsche forum...
Not to worry.. you are right.. I do dream of getting a ride in a Mustang some day..

The only difference is.. the Mustang in my dream has wings and a V12

pwd72s 06-21-2020 11:28 AM

Stijn, if you go to your area Ford dealer, you may be able to be the first to get the new Mach one Mustang. We know that you really want one...

Ford short video. Wow..just look and listen.

(edit) While in there, you might ask for details about the latest GT500...

svandamme 06-21-2020 12:41 PM

man, you must be getting some seriously powerful meds down there in Oregon..

A video of some rumbling stangs cruising a race track at idle is supposed to convince anyone?? ROFL
Can you list the meds??

But this was a solo run in a rental.

Yeah, I was able to figure that out by reading the article.

In years past, the time that elapsed between record runs was fairly substantial. Now it seems that each time someone achieves a new record, that result induces one or two others to try it. I think it’s getting just a wee bit too much attention.

Recent attempts are due to the recent sparsely populated thoroughfares due to the Big Virus.

a fella breaks the Coast to Coast record SOLO in a rental and gets no cred. because...Mustang. Clearly, the cars suck.

looneybin 06-21-2020 09:03 PM

Even with 130 gallons of fuel, I wonder how many times he had to fill up

Yeah, I get that. That’s a double-edged sword. Yes, there’s less traffic. But it also means that you stick out like a sore thumb, as other traffic is often useful for evading detection by the police.

you can do that kind of distance/average in a bog standard diesel VW golf.

Evidently no one reads.

And with Waze app. It tells you where the cops are at from the other users.
I use it. Just not today lol

He meant how many times he had to refuel, nobody starts with an empty tank.

svandamme 06-22-2020 02:46 AM

The article I read said he filled up by communicating with and rendezvousing with a crew who had the fuel in a truck. He didn't pull into a service centre.

What 178kph average beyond the abilities of a Golf?

2.0 TDI Blue motion does 209 kph has 140PS

The longer you drive without stopping, the less you need to accelerate, eg the less it matters how fast you got to the speed needed to maintain the average.

It's about consistency.. Hence the extra fuel tanks.. which you can also add to a bog standard Golf.. You don't need a mustang to keep that average going, you don't need big HP to keep going at a consistent steady speed..

I used to drive to Les Deux alpes in my 90 hp mark III Golf TDI
On the return.. 904 km to my house.. i departed at 12h00 and arrived at 19h30.. Do the math

That included mountain roads.
That included refueling
That included toll booths

I was overtaking the locals on the mountain roads.
I was constantly chasing Saab Turbo's and big Mercs on the Highway.

That was 20 years ago, so a modern day Golf can defo beat that.

URY914 06-22-2020 06:03 AM

There was an article years ago in Car & Driver about a couple of guys that sealed themselves in a Golf/Rabbit for a cross country run. Believe they added a fuel tank in the spare tire well.

?? I thought conventional wisdom was to never buy an ex-rental car. That's always been my stance.
